This article will show you how to open and view incoming messages on Facebook. You can do this in the Facebook Messenger mobile app or on the Facebook website.

Method 1 of 2: On a mobile device

1. 1 Start Facebook Messenger. The app icon looks like a white lightning bolt on a blue background.Click on it to go to the last open tab in Facebook Messenger.
   • If you are not automatically signed in, enter your phone number and password.
2. 2 Tap Home. It's a house-shaped tab in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on it to go to your incoming messages.
   • If a chat opens in the application, click on the "Back" button in the upper left corner of the screen.
3. 3 View your incoming messages. The most recent messages are at the top of the screen, just above the list of online contacts. Flick down the Home tab to display older messages.

Method 2 of 2: On the computer

1. 1 Go to Facebook. Enter https://www.facebook.com/ into the address bar of the browser. If you are already logged into your account, you will find yourself in your news feed.
   • Otherwise, enter your email address (or phone number) and password at the top right of the page.
2. 2 Click on the "Messages" icon. It's a lightning bolt icon at the top right of the page. Click on it to display a drop-down menu with a list of recent messages.
3. 3 Click the link Everyone in Messenger at the bottom of the dropdown menu. Click on it to go to your incoming Messenger messages.
4. 4 Review the list of incoming messages. Scroll through the conversations that are located in the column on the left side of the page. Recent conversations are at the top of the column, while older conversations are at the bottom.
   • Click on the gear icon in the upper left corner of the page and select the "Active contacts" option in the dropdown to view archived messages.

Tips

• Messenger can be opened in the Facebook app. To do this, click on the Messenger icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Warnings

• If your device doesn't have the Facebook Messenger app, you won't be able to check your incoming messages in the Facebook app.
