1 Wash the sweet potatoes. Place the sweet potatoes under cold running water and scrub with a brush. Wash the potatoes well, then dry them with paper towels.- This is especially important if you like to eat sweet potatoes with their skins.

- When in doubt, it is best to cook the potatoes a little less, as overexposed potatoes can flare up or explode in the microwave.
- If you want to eat the potatoes a little later, wrap them in aluminum foil to keep them warm for quite some time. Do this as soon as you remove the potatoes from the microwave to keep as warm as possible.
Method 2 of 2: Season the sweet potatoes

Tips
- Sweet potatoes and yams are different vegetables. Most varieties of sweet potatoes are similar in shape and size, tapering at the ends and noticeably finer than yams. Sweet potatoes are not as starchy and dry as yams, although they taste similar. If you accidentally buy yams, you can make it the same way, and it is possible that you will not feel any difference.
- Some microwave ovens have a Baked Potato setting. Use it if you have any doubts.
- If you are in a hurry, you can chop the potatoes as soon as the microwave turns off, add the spices (if desired), and then re-place them in the microwave for 30-60 seconds until cooked through.

Warnings
- Store sweet potatoes in a dark, cool, dry place unless you intend to cook sweet potatoes immediately after purchase. Do not put it in the refrigerator, it will dry up there.
