Original version:

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine (use margarine instead of butter for a softer treat)
  • 1 box (approx. 40) fresh marshmallows or 4 cups small marshmallows
  • 6 cups puffed rice

Microwave:

  • See list above

Incredible Puffed Rice Delight:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 5 cups fresh marshmallows
  • 5 1/2 cups breakfast cereal (any puffed cereal will work; the original recipe says rice cereal, but cocoa, oatmeal, and fruit flakes will also taste good)
  • Soft margarine or butter

Chocolate puffed rice treat:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 40 pcs. large marshmallow
  • 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
  • 6 cups puffed rice

Gluten Free Puffed Rice Treat

  • 2-3 cups butter
  • 4 cups marshmallows
  • 6 cups gluten-free puffed rice

Steps

  1. 1 Prepare everything before heating the marshmallows. It can burn if you hesitate with other work. In addition to the ingredients, collect all the necessary utensils (a complete list can be found at the bottom of the article titled “What you need”).
    • Be patient. The treat must be cooked over low heat, otherwise it may burn or deteriorate. Stick to this rule and you will have a great dessert.

Method 1 of 7: Original

  1. 1 Prepare a baking dish. Spray it with cooking grease or line with parchment paper.
  2. 2 The advantage of using paper is that you can easily take the treat out of the mold and cut it open with a pizza knife.
  3. 3 Melt butter or margarine in a large saucepan. Use low heat.
  4. 4 Add marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir until the marshmallow is completely melted.
  5. 5 Remove from heat.
  6. 6 Add puffed rice. To thoroughly coat the puffed rice with the butter and marshmallow mixture, stir gently.
  7. 7 Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  8. 8 Press the mixture evenly onto the mold. Do this by placing waxed paper on top and applying pressure with your hands or with a well-oiled spatula.
  9. 9 Let cool. When the treat has cooled down, cut it into 5 cm squares.
  10. 10 Serve. The puffed rice delicacy is always the most delicious on the day of preparation, so invite your guests!

Method 2 of 7: Microwave

  1. 1 Use the same ingredients as in the original (previous) recipe.
    • Place the butter and marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl.
  2. 2 Place the bowl in the microwave. Cook on high heat for 3 minutes. Stop the process for 2 minutes to mix the mixture.
  3. 3 Please note that the cooking time depends on your microwave oven.
  4. 4 Remove from microwave. Stir until the mixture is smooth.
  5. 5 Follow the rest of the steps above in the original version, starting with step 3.

Method 3 of 7: The Incredible Puffed Rice Treat

  1. 1 Brush a large baking dish or baking sheet and spatula with butter, olive oil, or softened margarine. You can also line it up with parchment paper.
  2. 2 Place 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan. Place the pot over low heat.
  3. 3 Gradually add five cups of marshmallows until the butter melts. Mix. The marshmallow and butter should be smooth, creamy white, thick.
  4. 4 Place five cups of puffed breakfast cereal in a bowl and add the mixture.
  5. 5 Stir well to coat all the flakes.
  6. 6 Place the mixture on a baking sheet and smooth with a spatula. You may need to grease the spatula several times with oil, as the mixture will be very sticky. You can also place wax paper on top of the mixture and press down with your hands.
    • Let the treat cool to room temperature for 15-20 minutes.
  7. 7 Cut into 12-24 pieces, depending on size. Serve immediately after cooling.
  8. 8 You can decorate the finished treats with melted chocolate or marshmallow slices.

Method 4 of 7: Chocolate Puffed Rice Treat

  1. 1 Prepare a dish or baking sheet. Use cooking grease or parchment paper.
  2. 2 Place butter in a saucepan. Place the pot over low heat.
  3. 3 Add marshmallows (40 pcs.)... Stir slowly.
  4. 4 Remove from heat as soon as the marshmallow is completely melted.
  5. 5 Pour chocolate syrup into the butter / marshmallow mixture. Mix thoroughly.
  6. 6 Gently add the puffed rice. Stir until the rice is completely covered.
  7. 7 Place the mixture in a prepared dish or baking sheet. Press the mixture with an oiled spatula or with your hands using wax paper.
  8. 8 Let cool for 15-20 minutes. After cooling, cut into bars or squares. Serve immediately.

Method 5 of 7: Gluten-Free Puffed Rice Treats

  1. 1 Turn on medium-low heat.
  2. 2 Add the butter and let it melt.
  3. 3 Add marshmallows.
  4. 4 Stir with a spatula until the marshmallow is a smooth, airy mass.
  5. 5 Add gluten-free puffed rice.
  6. 6 Stir to coat the puffed rice.
  7. 7 Place on a baking sheet or baking dish with a spatula.

Method 6 of 7: Flavoring Variations

  1. 1 If you want to experiment or just slightly improve the taste of this treat, you can make small additions. Here are some great options.
  2. 2 Add extract to slightly change the flavor. Half a teaspoon of your favorite extract, such as vanilla, can significantly improve the taste.
  3. 3 Add a packet of dry pudding mix to the finished butter and marshmallow mix. Banana, chocolate, or toffee-flavored puddings work well for this.
  4. 4 Add the larger ingredients to the butter and marshmallow mixture. Dried cranberries, raisins or chocolate chips are great additions to this delicacy.
  5. 5 Add 1/2 cup or more peanut butter. Fabulous! Other nut butters can also be used, such as almond or cashew nut oils.
  6. 6 Use a different syrup in your chocolate puffed rice treat recipe. Use strawberry, raspberry, maple, or other syrup.
  7. 7 Add caramel. You will end up with a very sticky treat!

Method 7 of 7: Storing Puffed Rice Treats

  1. 1 Consume fresh whenever possible. Otherwise, the treat may harden strongly.
  2. 2 Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature. You must eat the treat within 2 days. After this period, the leftovers will have to be thrown away.
    • Freeze if you plan to keep the treat for longer. Place the treat on waxed paper (separate the pieces) and place in an airtight container that can be used in the freezer. This way, you can store puffed rice for up to 6 weeks.
  3. 3 To defrost, remove the treat from the freezer. Let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes, then remove the waxed paper and serve.

Tips

  • Soak the pot immediately after cooking. Marshmallows are very difficult to peel when frozen.
  • If you're really ambitious, you can make a marshmallow from scratch!
  • You can add food coloring to the marshmallow mixture, such as orange for Halloween, red or green for Christmas, etc.
  • For a more stringy treat, add 1 less puffed rice. You can also just add more marshmallows.
  • You can decorate and cut the treat as you like.
  • You can cut the puffed rice treat into squares or bars.

Warnings

  • So children love this delicacy very much, they may want to take part in the cooking process. This is fine, but supervise the children during the process.
  • This treat should be eaten carefully if your tooth is loose.
  • Don't use dietary margarine.
