- add to vegetables or curries;
- make a jacket out of it.
Method 2 of 3: Red Lentil Curry
1 Wash the lentils. Place it in a strainer and rinse thoroughly.
2 Heat oil in a large saucepan. Put it on medium heat and let the oil heat completely.
3 Add ginger and garlic. Cook for about two minutes, until tender.
4 Add curry powder.
5 Add potatoes and carrots. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes.
6 Add lentils, broth, salt and pepper and stir.
7 Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Stir occasionally.
8 Cook the curry for 20 minutes. The dish is ready when the lentils and vegetables are soft.
9 Serve the curry. It goes well with chunks of lime, naan or rice.
Method 3 of 3: Red Lentil Dal
1 Wash the lentils. Place it in a sieve and wash it under running water for 1-2 minutes.
2 Cook lentils. Put it in a saucepan, after adding 3 cups of water to it. Bring water to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Cook the lentils until tender, which will take about 12 minutes.
3 Peel the tomatoes. Make a cruciform incision on top. Bring a separate pot of water to a boil, place the tomatoes in it for 30 seconds, then remove.Once they have cooled slightly, grab the cut skin with your fingers and peel it off.
4 Chop the peeled tomatoes.
5 Heat oil in a large saucepan. Put it on medium heat and let the oil heat completely.
6 Prepare the onion. Simmer for about 5 minutes, until translucent.
7 Add garlic. Continue cooking for another minute.
8 Add five Bengali spices and turmeric and stir to combine.
9 Add boiled lentils. Pour it directly with water. Cook for another 10 minutes.
10 Add tomatoes and stir.
11 Taste the soup and add seasoning as needed.
12 Serve the soup with naan and lime wedges.
