Over time, shower curtains and curtains become dirty and become covered with mildew, mildew and soap suds. Most curtains are machine washable. But if the curtain is only hand-washable, wash it in warm water and baking soda.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Machine wash

1. 1 Place your shower curtain or curtain in the washing machine. First, remove the curtain from the bathroom wall. Then put it in the washing machine.
   • Remove all metal hooks from the curtain before placing it in the washing machine.
2. 2 Add one or two towels to the washing machine. Thanks to this, the curtain will not wrinkle, stick or tear during washing. In addition, the towels will help clean the curtain while the washing machine is running. Take one or two white towels and place them in the washing machine. The towels must be clean.
3. 3 Add baking soda and detergent. Add the usual amount of detergent for this amount of laundry. Then add half a glass / glass (60-120 g) baking soda. The larger the curtain, the more baking soda you will need.
4. 4 Start washing. Turn on the washing machine. Choose the most powerful wash cycle and wash the curtain in warm water.
5. 5 Add bleach to remove stubborn stains. A moderately dirty shower curtain can be done with baking soda and detergent. But if the curtain is covered with a lot of mildew and stains, add a little bleach. Start the wash after adding the baking soda and detergent, and while the machine is filling with water, pour half a glass (120 ml) of bleach into the appropriate compartment.
   • Only use bleach if the curtain is white or transparent.
6. 6 Add vinegar while rinsing. Open the washing machine when it enters the rinse cycle (after having paused the wash). Pour half a glass / glass (120–240 ml) of distilled vinegar into it. Restart the machine and let it finish rinsing.
7. 7 Hang a curtain or curtain to drain the water. For curtains, never use a tumble dryer or tumble dryer. Instead, hang it in the shower after washing to drain all the water.

Method 2 of 3: Hand wash your shower curtain

1. 1 Dampen a rag and sprinkle with baking soda. Take a clean microfiber cloth and lightly dampen. Then cover it with a thin layer of baking soda.
2. 2 Wipe the curtain with a rag. Wipe the curtain lightly and save stubborn stains for later. Focus only on removing surface dirt.
3. 3 Rinse the curtain with warm water. Take a new rag and soak it in warm water.Wipe down the curtain to rinse off the baking soda and water. Scrub the curtain until all traces of baking soda are removed. Dampen the rag as needed.
4. 4 Remove any remaining stains. After removing the surface dirt, wet the rag again and cover it with a little baking soda. Remove accumulated soap stains and mildew. Focus on the places you missed the first time.
5. 5 Rinse the curtain again. Take another clean cloth and soak it in clean warm water. Wipe down the shade again to remove any traces of baking soda.
   • Do not leave any baking soda on the curtain. Continue rinsing the curtain until the fabric in your hand is clean again.

Method 3 of 3: Precautions

1. 1 Check detergents before using them. Before you wash your curtain with any detergent, cleaner, or bleach, test it on a small area of ​​the curtain. Make sure the product does not damage the material or cause discoloration. Take another remedy if you notice any damage.
2. 2 Take a look at the curtain care label. Read the care label carefully before washing your curtain. Most shower curtains are machine washable using detergent or bleach, while others are hand wash only.
3. 3 Keep your curtains clean. After you wash your curtain, take steps to keep mildew and mildew out of the curtain. Spray it daily with a 1: 1 mixture of water and vinegar. Wash the bottom of the curtain with vinegar and water once a week to remove any lather and mildew from it.
   • Use shower gels instead of soap, as soap produces lather.
