1 When you go to Google.com, you see a search engine with the simplest design. However, you can open advanced Google search. To do this, click on the gear icon (top right) and select "Advanced Search" from the menu.- Search options will be displayed in the opened tab.
- String "with words" - searches for keywords.
- The string "with a phrase" - searches for a specific phrase (similar to enclosing a phrase in quotation marks in a regular search). For example, typing "WikiHow is a great site" will not appear in the search results for "WikiHow is a great site."
- Search on menu - search for pages in the selected language.
- Country Menu - Search for pages created in a specific country.
- The string "Site or Domain" - Search for a specific site (for example, wikihow.com) or domain (for example, .edu).
- File Format menu - search for pages and files of a specific format (for example, .pdf).
Tips
- You don't need to open the advanced search page. In a regular search string, enclose a phrase in quotation marks (“”) to find a specific phrase; put OR between words to find any of these words; put a minus sign to exclude a word from the search.
- If you want to test Google Experimental Search, in the upper right corner of the page, click Services - More - Other Suggestions - Lab - Experimental Search.
