Dirty silverware can ruin even superbly cooked food. With regular washing, the silverware will of course be clean, but over time, dirt and grease will remain on it even after a cycle in the dishwasher. Conventional detergents may fail and the silverware will tarnish and forks, spoons, and knives will appear dirty, even if they are actually clean.

Steps

  1. 1 Prepare a cleaning solution.
    • Line a small tray with aluminum cling foil.
    • Fill the tray with 5-7 cm of water.
    • Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
  2. 2 Soak the silverware in the solution for 10 minutes. Baking soda will "polish" silver objects, remove dirt, stains and grease.
  3. 3 Rinse cutlery thoroughly under warm running water.
  4. 4 Dry your silverware naturally on a clean towel.
  5. 5 Buff the silverware with a soft, clean cloth. Take each item individually and wipe with a tissue to remove water marks. Silverware should shine like new!
  6. 6 Ready.

Tips

  • This method will do a good job of cleaning common stains on silverware, but to remove stubborn stains, add 1 teaspoon of salt to the mixture and boil it - the silverware should be in the tray - for 2-3 minutes, making sure the water is completely covering the cutlery.
  • Baking soda is called soda bicarbonate.

Warnings

  • This method is suitable for most types of silverware, but may not work for particularly valuable inherited items. Consult a specialist or have it cleaned professionally.
  • This method is not suitable for butler or acid treated silver.
  • Be aware that this cleaning process will remove the outer layer of silver. This method is not suitable for frequent use. If you clean your silver this way, you will "use up" it within a few years. Don't clean your silver too often.
  • This process oxidizes aluminum, so do not use aluminum bowls, trays, trays or pans made of aluminum.
