There are many opinions on how to dress gothic. True goths, non-goths, and posers have different ideas about this. Of course, subculture is not only about fashion, but style plays a big role in self-expression of the ready. This article, like many others that explains how to dress gothic, takes all points of view into account, as well as some hands-on experience with goths. And here's what happened: a practical guide on how to dress gothic for men!

1. 1 Reincarnate gradually. Don't go through a full-blown goth conversion right away because you will look like a poser. Add details little by little (you may already have a lot of good things that you didn't even know were).
   • Top. Basically, of course, they wear T-shirts on top. Black T-shirts with different band names. You can order a custom print for a T-shirt online, so be original! Use group photos, dark anime pictures, scary photos, choose what you like. T-shirts should be your size, you don't want them to hang ridiculously on you!
   • And again the top. In addition to your regular tees, try mesh tees. If your physique doesn't allow them to be worn just like that, wear nets over your regular tees. Black dress shirts work, as well as Victorian style shirts in black, white, gray, or dark jewel shades. Experiment with layers. Black long-sleeved sweatshirts and jumpers are great options.
   • Bottom. The standard option is black jeans. If you can afford it, wear skinny jeans (but NOT super skinny).Used jeans are better than new ones. Tripp pants are a good option too. They can be expensive, but they are well worth it. In addition to jeans, you can try wearing leather pants. Not an option for you? Wear pants. In summer you can wear black 3/4 shorts.
   • Shoes. Boots, boots and more boots! Boots - basic shoes are ready. Doc Martens boots are classics, but you are by no means limited. Wear black pointed chelsea boots with lots of buckles. Black Converse high top sneakers are the majority pick if you don't feel like pulling on your boots.
   • Outerwear. Striped jackets, leather biker jackets, wool coats, houndstooth coats. Let you have an option for any weather! It might be worth buying a black zip-up sweatshirt (just black or with a matching gothic print) so that you can wear it under your jacket in cold weather. Please do not buy long leather coats. You saw who wears them. Goth posers, cranks and Nazis. A WWII German officer's jacket is a classic, but the Gestapo's leather coat is a cliché. Leave this option for the posers.
2. 2 Add accessories. Find a decent belt. Black leather with metal studs, dark images and a cool buckle. Mesh gloves. Rings, necklaces, pendants, etc. Choose silver jewelry, it looks better with black. For makeup, usually use a light base and black eyeliner. DO NOT buy white face paint, it looks unnatural. Buy a light or white foundation or powder. And don't overdo it with eyeliner. Everything is good in moderation. You can paint on your lips and nails, but it's best not to do it every day. Your goal is to look gloomy and restrained, not shock the audience. Again, leave outrageous for the posers. Wear scarves. They add romance to the Gothic style.
3. 3 Choose a hairstyle. It's okay if you don't dye your hair, but if you do decide, you can look more spectacular. Black is the standard choice, but you can dye your hair any color you want. You can try pale platinum blonde or deep red. You can highlight your black hair with a darker or lighter color, such as blue, green, pink, or purple. But don't overdo it. Style your hair the way you like it. Grow your hair so you have more options. Flock, beat, spike or straighten. Find something online or just be original!
4. 4 Work on the behavior. After you have dressed, of course, you need to behave appropriately. You don't have to be depressed! But you need to talk about new things. Poetry, romanticism, pre-Raphaelite art, old horror films and, of course, music.
5. 5 Listen to music. Don't limit yourself to just gothic rock. Goths also love dark post-punk, horror punk and neo-psychedelics (Echo & the Bunnymen, Jesus & Mary Chain), new wave / synth-pop, new romance, shoe-gazing / dream-pop, industrial and ambient. Discover other dark bands that have sophistication in their work (and for God's sake, not Merlin Manson).

Tips

• Don't wear clothes just because they make you look more gothic. Only wear what you like and what suits you.
• Don't tell everyone you are goth or try to get others to say, "Hey, you look like a goth." Deny that you are a goth to see how others react.
• Being a goth doesn't mean you love murder and carnage. This is a search for darkness, but at the same time the sensitive side of the soul is revealed, and not the cruel one. Don't be afraid to look feminine or androgenic! If you want to look masculine, then an industrial look is more suitable for you (a simple black T-shirt, black jeans, black boots, short or completely shaved hair).
• Be humble (unless you're talking about how we all die without realizing our true purpose in life, and how morality is determined by individuals).

Warnings

• Try not to break the law to look cool. The Goths make fun of those who make a living by vandalism and robbery (well, in ancient times the Goths took over Rome, but this is beside the point). All you need is darkness with all its romantic sensibilities.
• This article is more suited to a more traditional and more conventional Gothic look. You can experiment with other styles as well, such as vampire (but NO capes), Victorian, dark fantasy, cyber, etc.
• Don't paint for school. You will be in trouble.
