Spring and summer are great times to sit out in the garden while enjoying the good weather and relaxing with family and friends. Pre-cleaning your patio is important and can take a long time depending on the size and dirt of the patio. This article offers tips on how to make cleaning much easier and faster.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Preparation
1 Disassemble the trash. Remove any items that don't belong there or that are broken.
2 Sweep or rinse the entire patio with water to remove all dirt, leaves, and debris.
3 Get rid of weeds. Weeds don't add to the look of your patio, so pick out large weeds with your hands and pick out small ones between the tiles with a large knife. You can spray herbicides or sprinkle salt between the tiles to kill the weeds.
Method 2 of 3: Concrete Coating
1 Mix 1 cup bleach and a bucket of water into a solution. If your patio is very dirty, use undiluted bleach. If you clean it regularly, use laundry soap.
2 Scrub the entire patio vigorously with a stiff brush. If you are using chlorine bleach, be careful when cleaning near plants or grass, as the bleach can kill them. If using undiluted bleach, flood your patio for a few minutes or hours, depending on how dirty it is. If you're using laundry soap, just pour some solution into your patio, add water, and start cleaning.
3 Rinse your patio gently if you've used undiluted bleach. Leave it on overnight and rinse again in the morning.
Method 3 of 3: Stone Coating
1 Mix a glass of laundry soap or baking soda with a bucket of water and pour the solution over the stone floor. Before using soap, make sure it can be used on tiles, as some tiles require special care.
2 Scrub the patio vigorously with a stiff brush.
3 Leave it on for a few minutes. You can spray vinegar between the tiles to kill weeds.
4 Rinse your patio thoroughly. Be careful in areas near vegetation, as the soap solution can kill the plants.
Tips
- If your patio is very dirty, you can use a pressure cleaner.
- Wear gloves when handling bleach.
- Use a hose when cleaning the patio. It will be faster and you won't have to carry buckets of water.
Warnings
- Never mix different cleaning products.
- Wear old clothing when handling bleach as it can become stained or severely damaged.
