Wolves can be found in the wild in Minecraft. They can be domesticated so that they follow you. Not only will they act like companions, but they will also protect you from hostile mobs. You can also breed tamed dogs so that you get more friendly dogs. This wikiHow teaches you how to tame and breed wolves and dogs.

To step

1. Collect bones. Skeletons and Wader Skeletons drop bones as soon as they are defeated. You can also find them in chests in the desert and temples in the jungle, or catch them while fishing.
2. Find a wolf. They appear in the following biomes: Forest, Taiga, Mega Taiga, Cold Taiga, and Cold Taiga M. While in Creative mode, you can also make one appear by using a wolf's "spawn" egg.
3. Use the bones to tame the wolf. Open your inventory and drag the bones to it. Select the bones by pressing the appropriate key on the keyboard, or by pressing the left and right bumpers of the controller until the "lock" with the bones is selected in the toolbar. Walk to the wolf and click on it with your right mouse button, or press the left action button on your controller, to give him the bones. The wolf is tamed when hearts appear above and its collar turns red.
   • You may have to do this multiple times and it will cost you your bot. After you've tamed the wolf, you can either let it sit or let it follow you by clicking on it with your right mouse button. If he is tamed he will sit by default. You will have to right click on the wolf to make him follow you.
4. Tame a second wolf. You need two for the breeding process. Use bones to tame a second wolf.
   • In Minecraft, animals, villagers, and mobs are not slaughtered. You don't have to worry about whether the wolves are male or female.
5. Feed the dogs to put them in love mode. Make sure both dogs are nearby. Feed them meat to put them in love mode. Hearts will appear above the dog. If two dogs go into love mode near each other, they will produce a puppy together without you having to do anything else.
   • A new puppy, from tamed dogs, will be instantly tamed and friendly towards the player.
   • A puppy will be small at first and will grow over time. You can make it grow faster by feeding it meat.

Tips

• If your dog gets behind, it will teleport to your location.
• If a wolf is sitting it will not follow you or teleport to your location.
• You can give a wolf's collar a certain color with dyes. Do this in the same way that you color sheep.
• Rotten meat dropped by zombies is hardly useful, but you can use it as dog food.
• Build a dog house for your dog. Not only does it look fun, but you can put your dogs in it when you don't need them.
• Wolves naturally attack skeletons, so watch your dog not run off and kill themselves.
• Puppies cannot swim and, once in water, will drown if you don't take them out.
• If an active wolf looks at an enderman, the enderman will scream and teleport to kill him, just like he would with you.

Warnings

• Don't put dogs in monster rooms!
• If you make wolf pups appear by using a "spawn" egg on an adult wolf, they will not be tamed.
• Don't hit an untamed wolf. He will try to kill you, and so will the rest of his pack.
