The crystal collects dust. Whether used as a decoration or for storage in a closet, a special method is used to clean the crystal. The crystal on display should sparkle and the tableware should be cleaned before and after use. To properly care for items made from this material, you need to know how to clean various types of crystal.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Decorative Crystal

  1. 1 Wipe down decorative crystal items such as candelabra, figurines, pendants, lamps, picture frames, and book holders with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a solution of warm water, mild detergent and white vinegar.
    • Mix 30 g of mild detergent and 8 g of shine white vinegar in warm water.
    • The lint-free fabric absorbs moisture and leaves no residue on the crystal.
  2. 2 Wash decorative crystal containers with wide openings, such as vases or goblets, before and after use.
    • Fill a crystal container with a warm solution.
    • Use a soft brush to move the sponge or soft rag inside the item.
    • Pour out the solution and rinse with clean warm water.
  3. 3 Rinse decorative containers with narrow openings like decanters and damask with a warm solution.
    • Fill the container halfway.
    • Add 8-15 grams of dry white rice or crushed eggshells.
    • Shake the object vigorously so that the rice-water mixture cleans the inside of the container.
    • Pour out the solution and rinse with clean warm water.

Method 2 of 2: Glass and tableware

  1. 1 Delicate crystal items should be washed by hand, as dishwashers and detergents can damage the items.
    • Line the bottom of the sink with paper towels or a soft cloth to avoid breaking the crystal.
    • Prepare a warm solution of 30 g mild detergent and 8 g white vinegar.
    • Use the solution to wash each item separately to avoid damaging anything.
  2. 2 Rinse with clean water.
  3. 3 Wipe with a lint-free cloth to avoid smudges after air drying.
  4. 4 Store dry cutlery and tableware in their original packaging or in a cabinet face up, away from everyday items.

Tips

  • To remove gray deposits on the walls, fill the crystals with warm water and add an effervescent oral cleaner tablet.
  • To avoid damage, hold delicate items by the bowl, not by the leg.
  • Some items have inscriptions or other artistic elements; use a toothbrush soaked in warm solution to clean them.
  • Ammonia can add shine, but it is corrosive in large quantities. Replace 8 g of pure ammonia with white vinegar.

Warnings

  • Crystal trimmed with gold, silver, dusting or paint should not be immersed in a warm solution. Wash each individual item with a cloth or sponge soaked in this solution.
  • Wash crystal at room temperature as it is very fragile and sensitive to cold and hot.
  • Hold large items in a dry towel with your non-washing hand. Crystal slips easily from wet hands.
