The terrace is an elevated surface that can often be seen in the courtyard. Since the terraces are outside, they tend to get dirty after a while. You can use regular detergents to keep your terrace looking new all year round. Use the following tips on how to clean it.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Prepare your terrace

1. 1 Remove all furniture and large debris. This will allow you to see the entire surface before cleaning the terrace.
2. 2 Sweep the terrace. Use a brush to pick up dirt, leaves, and small debris in a heap. Sweep the pile into a scoop or trash bag.
3. 3 Remove any debris that is stuck between the boards. Use a thin tool, such as a knife, to clean cracks and remove debris between the boards.
4. 4 Rinse the deck with a hose. Use a hose spray to make the water flow powerful enough to wash away any debris left after sweeping. Pay particular attention to crevices and heavily soiled surface areas when rinsing your deck.

Method 2 of 3: Use oxygen bleach to clean your deck

1. 1 Mix oxygenated bleach with water in a bucket. Oxygen bleach is an environmentally friendly bleach that does not harm nearby plants, unlike chlorine bleach. Read the instructions on the bottle to determine the recommended bleaching water ratio.
2. 2 Apply the solution to the deck with a stiff brush. Scrub the surface to remove stains. Leave the solution on the terrace for 15 minutes.
3. 3 Rinse off the solution from the deck. You can use a hose or a mechanical spray.

Method 3 of 3: Cleaning the terrace with a pressure washer

1. 1 Get a mechanical spray gun. Rent it from a tool store, or buy it if you will be using it frequently. Get one that has less than 1500 PSI, as others can destroy the deck.
2. 2 Add cleaning solution to the sink container. Use oxygen bleach or a special cleaner for this appliance. Read the instructions on the bottle to determine how much cleaner you need.
3. 3 Hold the sprayer approximately 1 foot (0.3 m) above the surface. If you keep it at this distance, you can avoid damaging the surface while cleaning the terrace.
4. 4 Rinse the deck with clean water. Pour the cleaner out of the spray bottle and then pour clean water into it.
5. 5 Repeat the terrace cleaning process to remove stubborn dirt.

Tips

• After the terrace is dry, you can treat it with a moisture / mildew proofing agent. This will allow, in the future, to keep cleaning your terrace to a minimum.

Warnings

• Do not leave the cleaner on the deck for more than 15 minutes. If it dries, it will leave traces of soap on the surface.
• Only use a pressure washer on terraces that are in good condition, as this can destroy old or damaged terraces.
