Steps

Method 1 of 4: Determine the current version of Internet Explorer

1. 1 Start Internet Explorer.
2. 2 On the toolbar, click Help (the question mark icon).
3. 3 Select "About Internet Explorer" from the menu. The current version of Internet Explorer is displayed.

Method 2 of 4: Upgrade to Internet Explorer 9

1. 1 Go to the Sources and Links section at the end of this article.
2. 2 Click on the first link in this section. You will be redirected to the Internet Explorer 9 download page.
3. 3 Change to your native language and select the required Windows version (Windows Vista or Windows 7) from the drop-down menu.
4. 4 Click Download. A download dialog box will open.
5. 5 In the File Download window, click Run.
6. 6 In the User Account Control window, click Continue. Internet Explorer 9 will download to your computer.
7. 7 Click Restart Now (Recommended). Your computer will restart and Internet Explorer 9 will be available for use.
   • Click Restart Later if you have documents or programs open that you cannot close at the moment. In this case, the installation of Internet Explorer 9 will complete the next time you restart your computer.

Method 3 of 4: Attaching Websites

1. 1 Go to the site you want to attach. The Pin function allows you to pin your favorite sites to the desktop, taskbar, or Start menu (for quick access).
2. 2 Find the icon displayed to the left of the site name (at the top of the browser window).
3. 3 Drag this icon to the desired location (desktop, taskbar, or start menu). You can now open the site by clicking on the icon.

Method 4 of 4: Identifying Search Engines

1. 1 Find the addresses of the search engines you use frequently. For example, if you are a regular search engine on WikiHow, add WikiHow to your favorite search engines list.
2. 2 Enter the name of the search engine in the address bar of Internet Explorer 9. For example, if you want to add WikiHow to the search engine list, enter WikiHow. A dropdown menu will open.
3. 3 Click "Add" in the lower right corner of the dropdown menu.
4. 4 Select the appropriate address (URL) from the list. For example, if you entered WikiHow, select “www.wikihow.com - wikiHow - How to do anything”.
5. 5 Now, when looking for information in the address bar, select WikiHow or another search engine.

• If you installed extensions in a previous version of Internet Explorer, you may need to update or reinstall them in Internet Explorer 9.
