If you spill bleach or use it to dye fabric or bleach furniture, follow these tips to neutralize the bleach spill.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Neutralizing Carpet Bleach
1 Absorb bleach spills with vinegar to neutralize it. This action will prevent further damage to your carpet.
2 Wait and examine the affected area. If the carpet is synthetic, the bleach may not discolor. If the color has changed, seek the help of a professional carpet cleaner for advice on how you can restore your carpet to its original color.
Method 2 of 3: Neutralizing Bleach on Fabric
1 Rinse the fabric in water after bleaching it to the desired shade.
2 Fill a small bucket or large bowl with a solution of 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water. Soak the cloth in the solution for 10 minutes. You can also soak a cloth in a solution of 1 part chlorine detergent and 1 liter of water.
3 Wash the neutralized cloth in warm, soapy water. Rinse fabric thoroughly and lay flat to dry.
Method 3 of 3: Neutralizing Bleach on Wood Furniture
1 Wipe the wood surface of the wood with a sponge dipped in vinegar.
2 Immediately after applying the vinegar, rinse the surface with water and a clean sponge.
3 Let the wood dry completely.
