WhatsApp will automatically change its status to offline 5 minutes after your last activity. Although you cannot set this status yourself, in Settings you can set who can see your WhatsApp status (as well as when you were last online).

Steps

Method 1 of 2: iOS

1. 1 Open WhatsApp.
2. 2 Select Settings. This is one of the options at the bottom of the screen.
3. 3 Click on the Account button.
4. 4 Select Privacy.
5. 5 Then Status.
6. 6 Touch Nobody.
   • Your status does not directly indicate whether you are currently using WhatsApp or not. If you hide your status, there will be a blank space under your name.
7. 7 Click Visit Time. With this option, you can control who can see when you last used WhatsApp.
8. 8 Touch Nobody.
   • If you leave the "Visited time" status visible, then your online presence will be obvious to everyone who can see it, since the time when you were last online will be displayed.

Method 2 of 2: Android

1. 1 Open WhatsApp.
2. 2 Click on the Menu button. It represents three vertical points and is located in the upper right corner.
3. 3 Select Settings.
4. 4 Click on the Account button.
5. 5 Select Privacy.
6. 6 Then Status.
7. 7 Touch Nobody.
   • Your status does not directly indicate whether you are currently using WhatsApp or not. If you hide your status, there will be a blank space under your name.
8. 8 Click Visit Time. With this option, you can control who can see when you last used WhatsApp.
9. 9 Touch Nobody.

Tips

• You can also select My Contacts, but remember that all your contacts will see your status and the last time you were on WhatsApp.
