Carpenter bees are similar in body structure and color to a bumblebee.However, unlike their relatives, carpenter bees are usually not aggressive. The female carpenter bee is capable of sting, but does so only when teased. These insects prefer to live in the forest, as they like to make moves in the wood and build nests there. Method 1 of 2: Active control and extermination of carpenter bees

1. 1 Use available pesticides. Powdered pesticides are the most effective pesticides for active nests of carpenter bees. Pesticides such as carbaryl (sevin) and boric acid are effective.
2. 2 Fill the bee passages with gasoline. A tried and tested remedy for bees - pouring gasoline or diesel fuel into their strokes. This will kill the bees, but you must remember that gasoline is flammable and use it carefully.
   • Avoid skin contact or inhalation of gasoline. Wear an N-95 respirator, safety goggles and gloves when refueling on the move.
   • When using an aerosol spray to apply gasoline, mark it and then use it only for gasoline. You don't want to use an aerosol spray to spray your plants with water after you've sprayed gasoline into your bees' passages.
3. 3 Spray the bees or their strokes with an aerosol carburetor cleaner. It is not the most gentle way to kill carpenter bees, but it is very effective. The aerosol carburetor cleaner has an elongated tube on the container and can be purchased at a discount from an auto parts store. Some species will kill bees in their burrows immediately; others will make their future home completely uninhabitable.
   • Be very careful not to get this substance on your face or eyes; ensure your protection and familiarize yourself with the safety measures.
4. 4 Make a terrible fuss. Carpenter bees are known to be extremely sensitive to noise, that is, in fact, sensitive to vibrations. Place a resonator box or boombox next to their intended housing to get them to leave. This method is both safe and not difficult.
5. 5 Swat the bees. In spring, carpenter bees fly around in search of burrows to lay eggs and store pollen - food for the larvae. (They also use the old moves, so it would be nice to patch them up). This means that they are very active for two to three weeks. It is very effective to hit them with a badminton or tennis racket, especially their tendency to stop in the air and hover for a moment.
   • Make sure you slam them down properly. Once you've done this, step on them and crush them (with your shoes on, of course).
6. 6 Invite an insect slayer. Professional exterminators know their job and can effectively rid you of the bees.

Method 2 of 2: Preventive Measures

1. 1 Stuff the bees' passages with steel wool. Carpenter bees cannot get out through the steel wool and are trapped. After they leave this nest, use wood putty or sealant to seal the hole. Choose a putty or sealant that matches the color of the wood.
2. 2 Paint all exterior wood surfaces to prevent bee infestation. While carpenter bees tend to attack all wood surfaces, insect exterminators believe they prefer raw wood. This means that it is time to use the terrace paint that you have been planning to paint for a long time, but have not found the time.
3. 3 Spray the affected areas with citrus spray. Try to find a citrus-based spray specifically made for carpenter bees, or you can make one yourself. Cut the rinds of different citrus fruits (orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit) and cook them in a shallow saucepan filled with water. Fill a spray bottle with citrus water extract, and fill a spray bottle with citrus juice.
   • Sprinkle the bee passages with an aqueous citrus extract. Carpenter bees, like other insects, do not tolerate citrus oil (citrus oil contained in the crust repels predators).
   • Almond oil and almond essence are another proven remedy against carpenter bees.
4. 4 Stop the reproduction cycle. It is not enough to simply kill adult or queen bees; you must kill the larvae of the bees in their nests to prevent them from reproducing and starting a new cycle. Here's what you need to do to kill the maggots:
   • Apply a powdered insecticide on every turn of the bee nest. It is important to use a powdered insecticide as other insecticides may soak into the wood or lose their effectiveness before the larvae hatch.
   • Never seal the holes of the passages after applying the powder insecticide, as this will force the carpenter bees to make new moves, and then they can avoid the action of the insecticide.
5. 5 Cover up abandoned passages or galleries. As soon as the young carpenter bees leave their nest, the passages must be closed, and for this it is better to use something more reliable than wood (in which the bees will again hide). Cover the passages with steel wool, aluminum, asphalt or fiberglass and cover with filler. Paint the surface to prevent the entry of bees.

Warnings

• Don't use banned pesticides. They are prohibited because they are harmful to your health and the health of your children, or cause serious harm to the environment.
• Make sure to wear protective clothing before handling bees as they can sting. But only females sting, and they spend most of their time in their nests. Therefore, the likelihood of being stung is very low.
