This article will show you how to connect a PS3 controller to a Windows computer using the SCP Toolkit.

Steps

1. 1 Turn on the controller. To do this, press the stylized PS button in the middle of the controller.
   • If the controller is paired with the game console, first unplug it from the power source.
2. 2 Connect the controller to your computer. Connect the narrower plug of the USB cable (meaning the charger cable of the controller) to the controller, and the wide plug to the USB port of the computer.
   • The location of the USB ports depends on your computer model. If you can't find USB ports, look for them on the sides or back of your computer, or on the back of your laptop.
   • If you are connecting a controller via a wireless module, you may need to install the drivers for that module first. Plug in the module and follow the instructions on the screen exactly.
3. 3 Go to the program website SCP Toolkit. With this program, you can connect your PS3 controller to your computer and play various games (for example, games on the Steam service).
4. 4 Click on the "ScpToolkit_Setup.exe" link. This is the first link in the Downloads section. The specified file is downloaded to a download folder on your computer (for example, to the Downloads folder or to your desktop).
   • Download the latest version of the program. If you are on the latest version page, the “Latest Release” will be displayed on the left side of the page.
5. 5 Double click on the downloaded installation file. Its icon looks like a black PS3 controller.
6. 6 Follow the instructions on the screen. Read the license agreement and then click Install. You may need to install several components of the program, so you will have to click Install several times.
   • If a message appears stating that some of the conditions required to run the program have not been met, click Next until the installation process starts. Otherwise, just click “Finish” in the first window.
   • If a window opens asking if you can trust the installation file, click Yes.
7. 7 Double click on the "ScpToolkit Driver Installer" program. You will find it in the SCP Toolkit folder.
8. 8 Uncheck the "Install DualShock 4 Controller" option. It's on the left side of the window. Since you are connecting a PS3 controller (such as a DualShock 3 controller), you will not need PS4 drivers.
   • Also uncheck the Bluetooth option if you are using a wired controller.
   • We recommend that you uncheck the boxes for those options that you do not need.
   • In Windows Vista, check the “Force Driver Installation” checkbox on the middle left side of the window.
9. 9 Click on the “Choose DualShock 3 Controllers to Install” field. It's on the right side of the window. Now select your controller.
10. 10 Check the box next to the Wireless Controller option. You will see a list of all devices connected to your computer (for example, keyboard, mouse, webcam, and so on). The PS3 controller is called “Wireless Controller (Interface [number]),” where the number refers to the USB port to which the controller is connected.
    • If you are using a wireless controller, in the Bluetooth section above the DualShock 3 Controllers drop-down menu, select the USB device you are using wirelessly.
11. 11 Click Install. It's on the right side of the window. SCP Toolkit will begin installing the controller drivers; this process will take less than five minutes.
    • A beep will sound when the installation process is complete.
    • Done - the controller drivers are installed and can be used in games.

Tips

• The described process can be applied to the PS4 controller, but first you need to disable the controller in the game console settings. You also need to install the DualShock 4 drivers and select the DualShock 4 controller (instead of the DualShock 3).
• If you have problems, try reinstalling the SCP Toolkit. In doing so, do not disable unnecessary options and be sure to check the box next to the option "Force Driver Installation" (Install Force Driver).
