Adobe Photoshop is the program most often used to create illustrations and edit photographs, although it also allows you to add text to images and change the font, size, or color of text. With this function, you can create announcements, cover pages and covers. Keep in mind that the main purpose of this function is to make the picture more informative with short text, and not to print large paragraphs or create text documents.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: How to add text

1. 1 Select the Type tool from the tool palette. The icon looks like the letter "T". Click on the icon or just press the "T" key on your keyboard to bring up this tool. Now you can click on any point in the image and add text to it.
2. 2 Adjust text settings using the menu at the top of the screen. After calling the "Type" tool at the top of the Photoshop window, a panel will appear with a choice of color, font, alignment and text size. You can also use the "Symbol" and "Paragraph" items. They resemble items in programs like Microsoft Word. To call up the relevant items, find the "Window" tab at the top of the screen and select "Character" and "Paragraph".
   • Font: allows you to select different font options like Arial or Times New Roman.
   • The size: adjust the font size to make the text larger or smaller.
   • Alignment: Align the font to the center, left or right.
   • Colour: click on the color picker to change the color of your text.
3. 3 Click on any part of the image where you want to add text in Photoshop. In this case, a cursor appears for entering characters. Just start typing and Photoshop will add the words starting from that point.
   • If you want to add plain text, you may not need to do anything else.
   • If you know how to use the Pen tool, then click on a curve to write text along that line.
4. 4 Hold and drag the tool to position the text in a specific area of ​​the image. If you want the text to fit on a specific area, you can hold down and drag the tool before entering the text. You won't see all the text that doesn't fit in the given field unless you change the font size.
5. 5 Click outside the text box or press Ctrl + Enter to see the final text in the image. If a tool prompts you to enter new text, then just click on another tool to exit the text editor. Double-click the text, or click once with the selected Text tool, to change the font and other parameters at any time.
   • If you click "Rasterize", then you will no longer be able to edit the text. If you accidentally choose this action, then do nothing for now.
   • If the text layer is selected, press Ctrl + T or Cmd + T to resize manually instead of using the new font size.

Method 2 of 2: How to change the appearance of the text

1. 1 Press and hold the Text icon in the toolbar to select other text input options. This icon looks like the letter "T". Press and hold "T" to see these options:
   • Horizontal text: used most often and allows you to type letters horizontally from left to right. This option is used when you normally select the Type tool.
   • Vertical text: allows you to write words from top to bottom and bottom to top.
   • Horizontal text mask: turns text into a mask that lets you do all kinds of fun things in Photoshop. By default, this option will lay out the layer below the text, with which you can perform various functions such as Fill.
   • Vertical text mask: similar to the horizontal option, but the letters are entered from top to bottom or bottom to top.
2. 2 Use the Paragraph and Character items to change spacing, kerning, and other options. If you want complete control over the text, then start with these points. The "Symbol" item icon looks like the letter "A" with a vertical line. The Paragraph item icon resembles the letter P with a vertical double line and a filled circle, but you can also click Window → Paragraph if you cannot find the icon.
   • Click and drag icons at each item to test the action. The function can be seen in real time. The interval is most often changed.
   • "Character" has more of an effect on the spelling, whereas "Paragraph" allows you to change the entire text box and orientation.
   • If you do not have access to the Paragraph functionality, right-click the text to select Convert to Block Text.
3. 3 Right-click on the text and select Blending Options to access various professional effects. In Blending Options, you can add shadows, outlines, glows, and even 3D effects, each of which you can tweak to your liking. Don't limit yourself to these features, but be sure to pay attention to the following:
   • Embossing: turn the text into a 3D object. The curves of the symbols will resemble three-dimensional cylinders that resemble pipes.
   • Stroke: choose the color, thickness and texture of the outline of your text.
   • Overlays: will allow you to change the font color, add a gradient, pattern or new color over the text shape. You can even lower the opacity of the overlay to get unusual shadows and transitions.
   • Shadow: add a small moving shadow behind the text, as if there is a wall a few decimeters away from it.Change the angle, opacity and size of the shadow.

1. 1 Search online and add new free fonts. It is very easy to add new fonts in Photoshop. Just download the font you want and drag it into the program window. On request "free fonts" you can find everything you need.
   • The .ttf extension is the standard for font files.

Tips

• If you want to quickly add text in Adobe Photoshop, press the T key on your keyboard and the Type tool will open.
• If the text input tool doesn't work, then create a new layer and try again. If that doesn't work, open the Type tool. Click the "T" -shaped icon with a downward-pointing arrow in the upper left corner, then click on the little gear and select "Repair Tool".

Warnings

• The keyboard shortcuts are not available when working with the Type tool. In this situation, Photoshop only recognizes keyboard presses as a text input tool.
