In order to share slideshows, digital resumes, and other PowerPoint presentations with Facebook contacts, the file must first be converted from a .ppt file to a video file. After converting the video, a copy of the presentation can be uploaded to your Facebook profile. This article provides detailed instructions on how to convert a presentation to a video file using Microsoft PowerPoint, and how to add the converted presentation to your personal Facebook account.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Via Windows Operating System

  1. 1 Open the PowerPoint presentation you want to download.
  2. 2 Save your PowerPoint presentation as a Windows Media video file.
    • Go to the File tab on the standard toolbar and select Save As.
    • Enter a name for the PowerPoint file and choose Windows Media Video from the Save as Type menu. Depending on the length of the video copy of your PowerPoint presentation, the number of effects and transitions used, and the system processor, the conversion may take several minutes to complete.
  3. 3 Make sure the video file size does not exceed Facebook's maximum size.
    • Right-click on the file and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
    • Click the General tab in the Properties dialog box to view the file size in megabytes. Make sure the file size is no more than 1.024 MB.
  4. 4 Make sure the video isn't too long.
    • Open a video copy of your PowerPoint presentation in any media player.
    • Click the File tab on the menu bar and choose Properties from the file menu. Click the Details tab to view the exact length of the video file, making sure it does not exceed the runtime of 20 minutes.
  5. 5 Configure your web browser to allow pop-ups from Facebook.
    • For Internet Explorer: Click on the Tools icon located in the far right corner of the browser window, next to the Home and Favorites icons. Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu. Go to the Privacy tab in the Internet Options dialog box and click the Settings button in the Pop-Up Blocker menu. Enter http://www.facebook.com/ in the field labeled Address Of Website, press Enter and click Close. A Facebook exception has been added to Internet Explorer.
    • For Firefox: go to the Tools tab on the menu bar and select Options from the drop-down menu. Select the Contents option from the menu in the Options dialog box, then click the Exceptions button. Enter http://www.facebook.com/ in the box labeled Address Of Website and click OK. A Facebook exception has been added to Firefox.
    • For Google Chrome: click on the key image located in the upper right corner of the browser window to access the browser options. Click Under The Hood, which is in the panel on the left. Click the Current settings button at the top of the page and click the Manage exceptions button in the pop-up menu. Type "Facebook" in the blank field labeled Pattern and press Enter. An exception for Facebook pop-ups has been added to Google Chrome.
  6. 6 Log in to Facebook using your username and password.
  7. 7 Select the Video option from the Share menu and select the "Upload a video to your hard drive" option to start uploading. A video download dialog box will open.
  8. 8 Find a video copy of your PowerPoint presentation and double-click the file to start the download process.
