Steam is a multiplayer online gaming platform with social networking features that allows players to chat and interact with each other. On Steam, you can add a friend at any time - you just need to know his username or have access to his profile.

Method 1 of 2: Add via username

1. 1 Launch the Steam application on your computer.
2. 2 Click on the "Friends List" option, which is located in the lower right corner of the program. After that, a small dialog box will appear in which a list of all current friends will be displayed.
   • Expand the browser window if the Friends List option is not visible. Browser or computer settings may prevent the Friends List option from displaying correctly in the browser.
3. 3 Click on the "+ Add Friend" link at the bottom of the pop-up window.
4. 4 In the field provided, enter your friend's username, and then click on the "Add to friends" button. This user will now be added to your Steam Friends list.
   • To find specific friends or users, you can open the Recently Played Together list or Search Community.

Method 2 of 2: Add via profile

1. 1 Launch the Steam application on your computer.
2. 2 Go to the profile of the user you want to add to your friends list. Search for a specific user or open the "Groups" section to find a user with whom you recently chatted.
3. 3 Click the Add Friend button in the sidebar to the right of this user's profile page. This user will now be added to your Steam Friends list.

Tips

• If, when adding a friend, you receive an error message that says “There was an error while adding a friend. Please try again ”, it means that this particular user has blocked you or you have blocked them. You can also get this error if your friend list is full. If you recently blocked a user, click "Open Friends List", find the user at the very bottom of the list, right-click on their name and select "Unblock".
