Glass is very useful in Minecraft. This decorative block allows light to pass through and prevents monsters from reaching you. Most monsters, including the Enderman, cannot see your character behind glass. Glass can be used to build a greenhouse that will be protected from various threats at night, or turn it into a tinted glass decoration or potion flask.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Smelt Glass Blocks

  1. 1 Collect sand. It doesn't matter which sand you take, regular or red, as they both turn into regular glass.
  2. 2 Place the sand in the stove. Create an eight cobblestone stove if you don't already have one. Place it on the ground and then right-click on the stove to open the smelting window. Insert sand into the top square.
  3. 3 Add fuel. Insert charcoal, wood, or another type of fuel into the bottom square of the stove. As long as there is fuel in the stove, each block of sand will yield one block of glass. It takes a couple of seconds to create one block of glass, so be patient.
  4. 4 Remove the glass from the stove. The glass will appear in the smelting result cell. By default, the glass looks like a light blue, almost transparent block.
  5. 5 Put down the glass. Glass is a full-size block that allows light to pass through completely. This block cannot be returned by smashing it with a pickaxe, so don't put it where you don't need it.
    • A tool with the Silk Touch enchantment is able to bring the glass block back to its original form.

Part 2 of 2: Making Glass Items

  1. 1 Turn glass blocks into a panel. Six glass blocks can be turned into 16 glass panels. They are thin vertical blocks that can be used as windows. To make a glass panel in the computer version of the game, the glass must be placed in the stove in the form of a rectangle: three blocks long and two wide.
    • When the panels are not attached to anything from the sides, they look strange and are almost invisible. When you place other blocks next to each other, the panels will automatically reshape and snap onto the blocks.
    • Glass panels cannot be installed horizontally (flat). If you want to make a glass floor, use glass blocks for this.
  2. 2 Paint the glass a different color. To get tinted glass, insert eight glass blocks in a ring into the stove, and then insert the desired paint in the center.
    • After the 0.16.2 update, tinted glass is no longer available in the mobile version of the game. It will be back in the next update.
    • To get different colors, insert one flower into the creation area. Ink sacs, bone meal, lapis lazuli, and cocoa beans can also be used to make paint.
  3. 3 Create a flask. Do you want to make a potion? Then you will have to create a flask first. Take three glass blocks and insert them into the stove with the letter "V". This will create three flasks.
    • To fill the flask with water, place them on the quick access bar and use on any water source.

Tips

  • Monsters cannot appear on glass. If you want to leave a dark room in your home, make a glass floor to protect yourself. Create a cool visual effect with a glass floor by placing it above water or lava.
  • Snow does not collect on the glass.
  • The current from the redstone can still pass through the glass block, which is diagonally located.
  • Librarians in white robes can sometimes offer you five glass blocks in exchange for one emerald. This is a level 3 trade, which means that you will have to trade with it several times to open it. After the 0.16.2 update, trading is no longer available in the pocket edition of the game.
  • To get light underwater, create a tower with glass blocks. As long as the glass is bonding to the glass on the surface, daylight at the top will travel through the blocks and reach the bottom as a dim glow.
  • Glass can be used to create a beacon, but it also requires other hard-to-find components.
  • Finished glass panels cannot be painted. To do this, you can take painted glass blocks and turn them into panels of the same color.

Warnings

  • Many objects are not attached to the glass. These include Jack's light, doors and hatches, beds, stairs, rails, redstone wire, and pressure plates. Torches can be placed on a glass block, but cannot be hung from it.
