Modern technologies make it possible to use a mobile phone as a wireless modem at any time. If you share your phone's data connection, you can also use the Internet from another gadget (tablet, laptop, or other mobile phone). To find out how it works, just look at the steps below.

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Activating Your Mobile Hotspot

1. 1 Turn on mobile data.
   • Slide down the Notifications panel by swiping from the top of the screen to the very bottom.
   • Tap the Portable Hotspot icon at the top of the screen to turn it on.
2. 2 Open Settings. You can access the Settings icon from the application menu.
3. 3 Click on Wireless & networks. If there is no Wireless networks section in your Settings, then find the Communication section.
4. 4 Select Modem & Access Point.
5. 5 Tap Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot. If you see a check mark next to the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot field, then you've successfully turned on the Wi-Fi hotspot.

Part 2 of 4: Device Management

1. 1 Open the access point menu. Just tap the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot options where you turned it on.
2. 2 Select Allow devices. It's in the lower-left side of the screen.
3. 3 Determine which devices are allowed to connect. If you want to control the number of devices that can connect to you, then tap the + icon at the top of the screen.
   • Enter the device name and MAC address of the device.
   • Click OK.

Part 3 of 4: Protect your hotspot

1. 1 Open the access point menu. Tap Set up and manage portable Wi-Fi hotspot where you turned it on.
2. 2 Select Customize. It's in the lower-right half of the screen.
3. 3 Enter the name of your preferred network. Tap the SSID field and just enter the name of your preferred network.
4. 4 Select Security.
   • Select Not Secure from the drop-down list if you do not want to set a password for the access point.
   • Select WPA2-PSK if you want to set a password for the access point.
5. 5 Enter password. If you choose to set a password on the access point, a password field will appear.
   • Tap the field and enter the password of your choice.
   • Tap Save.

Part 4 of 4: Connecting to a Mobile Hotspot

1. 1 Turn on Wi-Fi on your other devices. The Wi-Fi icon is usually the first icon in the Notifications drop-down bar on your home page.
2. 2 Select the mobile hotspot name from the list of networks. Depending on the device you are using, open the list of available networks and simply select the name of the mobile hotspot.
3. 3 Enter password. If the network requires a password, just enter it and press Enter. You must be connected to the internet.
4. 4 Check the connection. Just open your preferred browser and enter any website. If you were able to access the site, then the connection was successful.
