When your Twitter account is permanently deleted, you will lose your display name, username and profile information. This article will guide you on how to delete your Twitter account. To remove your account, you will need to request account deactivation and after 30 days of no login your account will be deleted. Before deleting your Twitter account, you should change your username and email address if you want to use it again later.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use the Twitter.com page
Access https://www.twitter.com/ from a web browser. This will open your Twitter home page if you are logged in with your Twitter account.
- If you are not logged in, click Log In (Login) in the upper-right corner of the window, then enter your email address (or use a username or phone number) and password in the appropriate field. You may need to confirm the message sent to your phone if available.
Click More (Other). You will find this option in the menu on the left side of the page. A selection list will be displayed here.
Click Settings and privacy (Settings and privacy). This is the second option in the menu.
Click Deactivate my account (Disable account). You will find this option at the bottom of the page, below the heading "Data and permissions".- When requesting to deactivate your account, you are beginning the account deletion process.
Click Deactivate (Disable). This is a button below the text that explains other things you can do before deactivating your account, like changing your username and email address if you want to use them again or download Twitter data. .- To change your username, you will edit the current name in the "Settings and privacy" section. If you delete an account before changing your username, you or someone else won't be able to use the name in the future.
Enter your Twitter password. When prompted, enter the password used to log into your Twitter account in the "Password" field.
Click Deactivate. You will see this dark pink button below the password input field. This is disabling your account, but you can still sign in to your account again at any time for the next 30 days to restore your account.
- Twitter will keep your account information for about 30 days after the account is deactivated, but your account will be permanently deleted after this period.
Method 2 of 2: Using mobile apps
Open Twitter. This is an app with a blue bird icon, and you usually find it on your home screen, in the app drawer, or by searching.
- Sign in when prompted.
Tap on the avatar or the icon ☰. You will see these two options in the upper left corner of the screen. A selection list will be displayed here.
Touch Settings and privacy (Settings and privacy). A new window will appear.
Touch Account (Account). This is usually the first option in the menu and shows up below the username.
Touch Deactivate your account (Disable account). You will find this option at the bottom of the page, under "Log out".
Touch Deactivate (Disable). This option is often displayed below a body of text explaining other things you can do before disabling your account, such as changing your username and email if you want to use them again or download data. Twitter.

- You cannot delete a suspended account.
- You will submit a request to deactivate your account and your account will be deleted after 30 days.
