Setting Chrome as your default browser varies depending on your operating system. While you can set Chrome as your default browser through its own settings, it's more efficient to use your system settings to ensure changes are applied throughout. You can change the default browser on Windows, macOS, and Android operating systems. If you have an iOS device, you'll need to jailbreak your iDevice. To change your search engine, go to Settings> Safari> Search Engine and select Google, Yahoo or Bing.

Steps

Method 1 of 5: On Windows 10 operating systems

1. 

   Install Chrome if the device doesn't have one. Chrome needs to be installed before you choose to be the default browser. You can get Chrome by visiting it from the Edge browser and clicking the "Download" button. Run the downloaded installation software to install Chrome.

   Open Start and click or tap "Settings" (Settings) with gear icon.

   Select "System" at the home page of the Settings menu to view the various system settings.

   Click or select the "Default apps" tab in the left menu of the System window.

   Select "Web browser". This will display the browsers installed on the computer.

   Select Goolge Chrome as the default browser. Chrome will automatically open the path and the HTML file.

   Use Control Panel if your settings have not been saved. Some users reported that their default browser choice was not saved by Windows, or that Chrome was not displayed. In this case, open the Control Panel and follow the instructions in the next section to make Chrome your default browser.

Method 2 of 5: On Windows 8, 7 and Vista operating systems

1. 

   Install Chrome before you make it your default browser. You download Chrome by accessing it from Internet Explorer.

2. 

   Open Control Panel in the Start menu. On Windows 8, right-click the Start button and select "Control Panel" or type "control panel" into the Start screen.

3. 

   Select "Default Programs". If you are viewing by Category, click the "Programs" category first.

4. 

   Click "Set your default programs". It will take a while for the computer to load the program list.

   Select "Google Chrome" from the list of programs. You may have to scroll down below to find it.

   Click "Set this program as default". This will make Chrome the default program for all web paths and HTML files. advertisement

Method 3 of 5: macOS operating system

1. 

   Install Chrome if your computer doesn't have one. You need to install Google Chrome before setting it as your default browser. You can install Chrome by going to and clicking "Download" at the top of the screen.

   Run the Chrome installation program after downloading. To install Chrome, click the DMG file in the Downloads folder, then drag the Google Chrome icon to your Applications folder. You can delete the DMG file after the installation is complete.

   Click the Apple menu and choose "System Preferences" (Optional system). Once Chrome has been installed, you can set it as your default browser from the System Preferences menu.

   Select "General". You can find this option above the "System Preferences" menu.

Method 4 of 5: Android operating system

1. 

   Make sure Chrome is installed. You need to have Chrome installed before you can make it your default browser. You can install the program from the Google Play Store.

   Open the Settings app on the home screen or in the App Drawer. You can open the App Drawer by tapping the square frame button at the bottom of the home screen.

3. 

   Select "Apps" or "Application manager" '' (Application Manager) to view all the apps installed on your Android device.

   Find and select the current default browser. You need to find the browser in use at this moment. If the browser is pre-installed in the device, you need to navigate to the "All" tab in the application list.

   Select "Google Chrome" from the list of apps. You should see all the browsers installed on the device show up in the list of apps. Tap on Google Chrome.

Method 5 of 5: iOS operating system

1. 

   Unlock (jailbreak) iOS device. The only way to set another browser as default is to jailbreak the device. The device jailbreak isn't usually possible if you're on the latest version of iOS. You can see the iPhone jailbreak guide to learn how to jailbreak iOS devices.

   Open Cydia on your jailbroken iOS device. Cydia is the app manager of an jailbroken iOS device and allows you to install a variety of system tweaks and device-specific apps. You will see Cydia on your home screen after you jailbreak your device.

3. 

   Touch the Search option and search "Open in Chrome" (Open in Chrome). This is an editing form of the system settings of an iOS device that allows you to change the default browser. This can be found in Cydia's default repository.

   Select the "Install" button to download and install editing the system. Your iOS device will restart to complete the installation.

   Open your device's Settings app. "Open in Chrome" will add an option to the Settings app.

6. 

   Make sure "Open in Chrome" is turned on. Check that the slider at "Open in Chrome" under Settings is discolored. This will make Chrome the default browser.

7. 

   Tap a link to open Chrome by default. When "Open in Chrome" is enabled, any link will be automatically opened with Chrome. This setting applies to links in emails, messages, apps, websites and any other links. advertisement
