This wikiHow teaches you how to record your desktop content (from desktop to games and programs) into video. You can do this with OBS Studio on a Windows computer, or QuickTime - the video player built into the Mac computer. If you have the Creators Update of Windows 10, you can also use the Game Bar to record game and app activity.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: On Windows

1.

   On. So you can now record the screen while playing games.
   • You can add your own keyboard shortcut to enable screen recording in the text field below the "Stop / start recording" heading.

   Open the game you want to record. You can also open the app or program you want to record, but you may not be able to record the desktop with the Game Bar, and you may not be able to switch to another application while recording.

   Press ⊞ Win and G same time. This key combination launches the Game Bar.

   Check the box "Yes, this is a game" (This is a game). The option is in the Game Bar notifications at the bottom of the screen. The Game Bar will open itself at the bottom of the screen.

   Start recording game video. Click the red circle icon on the game bar, or click ⊞ Win+Alt+R. Windows will begin recording your game video.
   • You can click on a square icon in the game bar or use a key combination ⊞ Win+Alt+R to stop recording.

Advice

• If you don't want to use OBS Studio, there are a variety of free screen recording applications available for Windows. Notable options include Screen Recorder and AceThinker.
• OBS Studio is available for Windows and Mac computers.
• On DELL computers, you can also press Win + G to record your screen.

Warning

• Some low-cost or free screen recorder programs that can slow down your computer while playing games can slow down. If you want to have high quality professional footage from a game or program, you need to invest in a dedicated screen recording program.
