Method 1 of 2: Use Adobe Reader DC

1. 

   Open a PDF document in Adobe Reader. Click the red Adobe Reader icon with text A White. Then click File (File) in the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Open ..., select the PDF document you want to edit and click Open (Open).
   • If you don't have Adobe Reader, you can download it for free from get.adobe.com/reader and use it on Windows, Mac and Android operating systems.

   Click on the highlighter tool. It has the match icon to the right of the toolbar at the top of the page.

   Move your mouse to the beginning of the text you want to highlight.

   Click and hold, then drag the mouse over the text.

   Release the mouse button when finished. The text is now highlighted.

Method 2 of 2: Use Preview on Mac

1. 

   Open a PDF document in the Preview app. Double-click on the blue Preview icon of the two overlapping images. Choose File on the menu bar and select Open ... (Open) in the drop-down menu. Select the file in the dialog box and click Open.
   • Preview is Apple's photo viewer app that comes pre-installed on most versions of Mac OS.

   Click on the highlighter tool. The tool has a stamp icon in the middle right of the toolbar at the top of the page.
   • To change the color of the highlighter, click the down arrow to the right of the stamp icon and select the desired highlight color.

   Mouse over the beginning of the text you want to highlight.

   Click and hold, then drag the mouse over the text.

   Release the mouse button when finished. The text is now highlighted.
