Not sure how to change the time from minutes to hours, right? Then don't worry! This conversion can be done easily with a few basic steps. The general rule is divide the number of minutes by 60 to find out the hours because an hour has 60 minutes.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Convert minutes to hours

1. 

   Start with a specific number of minutes. You can handle the first step in many ways. For example, if you're using paper, write down the minutes and write them as "minutes". If you are using a calculator, just dial the number into the machine.
   • For example, we will try to calculate how many hours a 150-minute movie will be. In this case, we will write 150 minutes on paper. Then find the answer according to the following steps!

   Multiply by the fraction "1 hour / 60 minutes. Next, write (or press) the multiplication sign (x), followed by the fraction 1 hour / 60 minutes. This fraction shows the number of minutes in an hour (60). When we multiply, we also get the last unit (since the two "minutes" units are destroyed).

   Find the answer. Now you just need to do the math. The answer you get is the number of hours you are looking for.
   • In the above example, 150 minutes x 1 hour / 60 minutes = 2.5 hours, or 2 1/2 hours. Equivalent to 150 divided by 60 or 150/60.

   Multiply by 60 to get the number of minutes. Multiplying the hours by 60 gives the initial number of minutes. Specifically, you would multiply by 60 minutes / 1 hour so that the two units of "hours" are eliminated.
   • In the above example, 2.5 hours x 60 minutes / 1 hour = 150 minutes - Exact number of minutes initially.

   If you need to change times with hours and minutes, just calculate the minutes. Sometimes you will have time x hours y minutes. In this case, simply convert "y minutes" to hours, then add "x hours". That way, you will have the total time in hours.
   • For example, we need to convert 3 hours and 9 minutes into hours. To do this, all you need to do is calculate how many hours 9 minutes equals, then add 3 hours. That is, 9 minutes x 1 hour / 60 minutes = 0.15 hours + 3 hours = 3.15 hours.

Method 2 of 2: Convert to hours and minutes

   Change the number of minutes to hours as usual. At this point, we are only talking about finding the answer by hours. However, time is usually written as hours and minutes; therefore, you better still know how to change this. Luckily this is easy. First, convert the minutes to hours as learned in the previous section.
   • Please see the following illustration. If we want to convert 260 minutes to hours, we would calculate the following: 260 minutes x 1 hour / 60 minutes = 4.33 hours or 4 1/3 hour.

   Multiply the fraction or fraction by 60. Next to your answer with full hours, you will sometimes still see your answer with decimals or fractions. For now, you just have to multiply that part by 60. The integer part stays the same - we're only dealing with the "extra" decimal or fraction part. Write the unit of this answer as "minutes".
   • In the above example, we would multiply "0.33" by 60. That is 0.33 x 60 = 20 minutes
   • If we calculate by fractions instead of 0.33, we have the same answer. That is 1/3 x 60 = 20 minutes.

   Write your answers in hours and minutes. The answer you just found is the "minutes" part of your final answer. You already know the number of "hours" - it's the integer you got when you first converted. Write your answer as follows: x hours y minutes.
   • In the example above, our first answer is 4.33 hours. After that, we get the fraction "0.33" equal to 20 minutes; So the final answer is 4 hours 20 minutes.
