To label faces on Google Photos, you need to click or tap the search box and select a face. Then, enter a name so you can easily find the person's photo on Google Photos. You can also change the tag name, remove a picture from a tag, and group similar faces into the same tag at any time. There is also the feature to hide certain faces from the search results. Let's learn how to use Google's Face Grouping feature to improve search results on Google Photos.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Face tagging on mobile apps
Tap the Google Photos icon. A list of photos will appear when you open the Google Photos app.
Make sure Face Grouping is turned on. Otherwise, you won't be able to group by face.- Press the ☰ menu and select “Settings”.
- Make sure the “Face Grouping” switch is set to On. You can also disable this feature at any time.
- Click the arrow to return to the Photos screen.
Click the search box. The search menu will expand with a row of options including small face photos.- If no face is displayed, this feature is not available in your country.
Click the arrow to the right to see all faces. You will see all faces recognized by Google in the photo.
- Don't worry if you see two pictures of the same person in this list, we will sum it up later.
Tap a face to label it. A new screen will appear with the person's face at the top, below it the words "Who is this?" (Who is this?).
Click on “Who is this?”A text box will appear with the“ New name ”box as well as the contacts to choose from.
Enter or select a name. Because the label is intended only to aid in image searching, no one will see this name except you.
Click the check mark or "Return" button on the keyboard. The name you choose will be used as a label for the face.
Click the search box. If this person has multiple face symbols, you can sum them up by applying the same label. The face icons will continue to appear.
Click another photo with the person. "Who's This?" will reappear in the upper left corner of the screen.
Enter the label you selected earlier. The person's label and face icon will appear in the search results.
Click the label in the search results. A dialog box will pop up with the question "Are these the same person?" (same person or other person). All of this person's faces will appear below the question.
Click "Yes" (same person). So all faces will be tagged the same, and when you search for this tag, the Google image associated with all the face icons appears in the results.
- You may need to repeat this process more than once with the same person.
Method 2 of 5: Label the face on a website
Access http://photos.google.com. You can use Google's Face Grouping feature to label similar faces and find photos by their names. If you're not signed in to Google Photos, go ahead.
Make sure Face Grouping is turned on. Before labeling and compositing similar faces, Face Grouping must be turned on and available in your area.
- Click the “…” menu on the left side of the screen.
- Click “Settings”.
- Make sure the “Group Similar Faces” switch is set to On. If you don't see this option, Face Grouping isn't available in your country.
- Click the browser's back button to return to the photo gallery.
Click the search box. A list of face icons will appear near the top of the expanded search menu. If you can't find the face you want to label, click the arrow on the right to see more.
Click on the face photo to tag it. Don't worry if you see the same person in multiple face shots. You will group them later.
Click “Who's This?”In the upper left corner of the screen. An option to enter or select a name appears in the expanded list.
Enter or select a name. No one can see this name but you, you can even rest assured to choose the full name from the contact list.
Click “Done”. From now on each time you enter this name in the search field, that person's picture will appear in the results.
Click the search box. If you have more than one face icon of the same person, group them by tagging the same person. The face icons will continue to appear.
Click another photo with the person's face. The box “Who's This?” will reappear in the upper left corner of the screen.
Enter the label you selected earlier. The person's label and face icon will appear in the search results.
Click the label in the search results. A dialog box will pop up with the question "Are these the same person?". All of this person's faces will appear right below the question.
Click "Yes". So all faces will be tagged the same, and when you search for this tag, the Google image associated with all the face icons appears in the results.
- You may need to repeat this process more than once with the same person.
Method 3 of 5: Remove pictures from labels
Open Google Photos on your device. Start by opening Google Photos on your mobile device or visiting http://photos.google.com in a web browser.
Enter the label in the search field. The label will appear at the top of search results.
Select word tags in search results. The page containing all the images associated with the face tag (even unrelated ones) will appear.
Click the ⁝ menu in the top right corner of the page. A short menu will appear.
Select “Remove Results”. A circle will appear in the upper left corner of each image so you can select multiple photos at once if you want.
Click or tap the circle to select the photo to delete. You can click or tap multiple photos to select them at the same time.
Click or click “Remove”. This link is in the top-right corner of the page. After you click, the face tag will be removed from the photo. advertisement
Method 4 of 5: Rename or delete the label
Open Google Photos. Start by opening Google Photos on your mobile device or visiting http://photos.google.com in a web browser.
Enter the label in the search field. The label you want to change will appear at the top of the search results.
Select word tags in search results. The page that includes all the photos associated with the face tag opens.
Click the ⁝ menu in the top right corner of the page. A short menu will appear.
Select “Edit Name Label”. To rename the existing label:
- Delete the current label name.
- Enter a new name for the label.
- Click the back arrow to save your changes.
Select “Remove Name Label”. Google won't remove this photo, instead just removes the label.
- The next time you search for a keyword in Google Photos, the face previously linked to that tag will appear in the list of unlabeled faces. You can add a new tag to this face at any time.
Method 5 of 5: Hide faces from search results
Open Google Photos. You can choose to hide all pictures that match a certain face, whether they have been tagged or not. Use this method if someone appears in an image that you don't want to see in search results.
Click the search field. A search menu will appear with a list of faces near the top.
Click or tap the arrow mark to the right to see all faces. When faces appear, a ⁝ icon will also appear in the upper right corner of the screen.
Click the ⁝ icon and select “Hide & Show People”. On the website, this link will display as "Show & Hide People".
Click the face you want to hide. This could be anyone you don't want to see now.
- To hide many people, you click or click on multiple faces in the list.
- You will be able to unhide someone by going back to this page and clicking on their face.
Click “Done” in the upper right corner of the screen. So when you search for a photo, this person's face will not appear in the search results. advertisement
Advice
- Some photos also store data about the actual captured location. You can try searching for the city name on Google Photos to see the pictures taken there.
- To view all videos in your Google Photos account, click in the search box and select “Videos” from the menu.
