Here's an article that shows you how to update Microsoft's Internet Explorer. After the release of Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft stopped supporting Internet Explorer and did not continue to generate any other updates. Internet Explorer is only available on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10, although Microsoft Edge is the default browser for this operating system.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Update Internet Explorer version 11
Visit the Internet Explorer 11 download page at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18520/download-internet-explorer-11-offline-installer. Open a web browser and visit Microsoft's Internet Explorer 11 download page.
Drag the scroll bar down to the language selection. You will see a list of languages on the left side of the page.
Click on the name of your operating system. You should see the name of your computer's operating system on the right side of the language selected. Clicking on the link will launch the installation file to your computer.
- Windows 7 installation files will still work on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, as long as you choose the correct format of your version of Windows, such as 32-bit or 64-bit.
- If you do not know the bit number of the computer (32 bit or 64 bit), you can see the information by right clicking This PC, clicking Properties (Properties), and see the bit number to the right of "System type".
Right-click the Internet Explorer settings icon. This icon is usually displayed on the desktop background.
Click Yes when asked. This will take you to the Internet Explorer settings window.
Follow the instructions on the screen. This includes agreeing to Microsoft's terms by clicking I agree (I agree), then choose next (Continue), choose where to install and choose whether to create the program's icon on the wallpaper.
Click finish (Completed). This is the option in the lower-right corner of the window. This will terminate the Internet Explorer installation process. advertisement
Method 2 of 3: Turn on Updates for Internet Explorer 10
Open Internet Explorer. It is a program with a blue "e" symbol. You can also search by typing "Internet Explorer" into the Start menu.
Click ⚙️. This icon appears in the upper-right corner of the Internet Explorer window.
Click About Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer Information). This is an option at the bottom of the currently displayed menu.
Check the box "Install new versions automatically". You'll find this box in the middle of the About Internet Explorer window.
Click Close (Closed). This is the button that appears at the bottom of the About Internet Explorer window. As such, Internet Explorer will automatically update from now on. advertisement
Method 3 of 3: Update Microsoft Edge
Close Microsoft Edge if you are using it. Once Edge has a new version of the update, the browser needs to be closed to complete the update process.
Open Start. You can click the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen or press the key ⊞ Win.
Click ⚙️. This is the icon in the lower left corner of the Start window. This will open the Settings page.
Click Update & security (Update and Confidentiality). You'll find this option near the bottom of the Settings page.
Click Check for updates (Check for updates). This is the button displayed near the top of the Update & Security page.
Wait for the update to complete. After you see the message "Your device is up to date" displayed at the top of the page, the Microsoft browser has been updated. advertisement
Advice
- Microsoft Edge is the browser that replaces Internet Explorer on the Windows 10 platform.
Warning
- Although it has been updated on the Windows 10 platform, Internet Explorer is still considered a "weak" browser. So avoid using this browser unless you have no other choice.
- Do not download Internet Explorer from anywhere other than the official Microsoft website.
