FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a music encoding format used to store song quality, but at the same time, it takes up a lot of hard drive space. FLAC files generally cannot be played back on MP3 players. Therefore, converting FLAC files to MP3 format will save memory and make music playable on multiple devices. There are many software that convert FLAC files to MP3, but it will be a bit difficult to use. This article will describe how to use these programs on Windows, Mac OS X as well as GNOME of Linux.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Convert FLAC to MP3 on Windows and Mac OS X
Download the Audio Converter app from MediaHuman. Go to the homepage and download the installation file to your computer.
Install Audio Converter application.
Open Audio Converter.
Click and drag one or more FLAC files to drop into the Audio Converter window. You can also add files by clicking the + button. A file selection window will open.
Click the Format drop-down menu, then choose MP3. This is the only drop-down menu on the menu bar of Audio Converter.
In the MP3 dialog box, you choose to set the format for the final MP3 file.- You can choose to convert to mono or stereo audio. Note that if you choose mono output, some audio data may be lost.
- You can choose the sampling frequency you want to use. Audio CDs typically use the 44.1 kHz (or 44100 Hz) frequency. If you choose a frequency less than this, the quality will drop dramatically.
- You can choose the data transfer rate (bit rate) you want. MP3s on the network typically use a transfer rate of 128kbps.
Convert audio files. Click the Convert button to start converting the FLAC file.
Find the converted file. Click the Locate button next to the converted file to open the folder containing the converted MP3 file.

- Audio Converter can also convert audio files to WMA, MP3, AAC, WAV, OGG, AIFF and Apple Lossless formats.
Method 2 of 2: Converting with GNOME on Linux
Download and install SoundConverter at http://soundconverter.org.
- SoundConverter is software licensed under the GNU General Public License.
Open SoundConverter.
Click Preferences to open a custom window.
On the Preferences window, click Choose and choose where to save the MP3 file after converting.
Under Type results, click the Format drop-down menu and select MP3 (mp3).
Choose MP3 sound quality. Click the Quality drop-down menu and choose the sound quality you want.
Load FLAC file into SoundConverter. In the main window, click Add File to add files or Add Folder to add a folder containing FLAC files. The files will be added to the SoundConverter list.
Click Convert. SoundConverter will start converting FLAC files to MP3 into the output folder you selected.
