This article will guide you on how to send emoji emoticons when using WhatsApp.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On an iPhone

1. 

   Make sure your iPhone's Emoji keyboard is turned on. To activate:
   • Open the item Settings (General Settings) on iPhone.
   • Press General (Setting).
   • Scroll down and tap Keyboard (Keyboard).
   • Guarantee item emoji displayed here. If not, press Add New Keyboard (Add a new keyboard) and then select emoji (Icon).

   Open WhatsApp. It's a white phone icon on a green chat box.

3. 

   Press Chats (Conversation). This option is at the bottom of the screen.
   • If WhatsApp opens a conversation, first press the "Back" button in the top left corner of the screen.

   Tap a conversation. This will open the conversation.
   • You can also tap the pencil icon in the upper right corner of the screen to create a new message.

   Tap the chat bar. It's a white icon at the bottom of the page.
   • If you start a new chat, first tap the contact's name.

   Press the "Keyboards" button. This is the globe icon in the lower left corner of the iPhone keyboard.
   • If the Emoji keyboard is the only keyboard you can add, the icon will look like a smiley face.

   Tap the Emoji keyboard icon if needed. If you have multiple keyboards, tap the smiley icon in the popup window above the "Keyboard" icon.

   Choose an emoji. You can tap one of the tabs at the bottom of the screen to choose specific emoji groups, or swipe left on the emoji keyboard to see all the available emojis.

   Click the "Send" arrow. It's to the right of the chat bar. Emoticons will be sent later. advertisement

Method 2 of 2: On Android

1. 

   Open WhatsApp. It's a white phone icon on a green chat box.

2. 

   Press CHATS (Conversation). This tab is near the top of the screen.
   • If WhatsApp opens a conversation, first press the "Back" button in the top left corner of the screen.

3. 

   Tap a conversation. This will open the conversation.
   • You can also press the "New Message" button in the lower right corner of the screen and then select a contact to start a new conversation.

   Click the emoji button. It's the smiley icon on the left side of the chat bar at the bottom of the screen.

5. 

   Choose an emoji. You can tap a tab near the top of the emoji window to browse through categories of emojis, or swipe left to see through.

6. 

   Click the "Send" arrow. This option is to the right of the chat bar. Emoticons will be sent to the chat. advertisement
