This article will teach you how to view the contents of a zip file on an iPhone or iPad using the Files app and extract that contents using iZip.

Method 1 of 2: View the contents of the zip

1. Open the Files app on your iPhone or iPad. This is the blue folder icon that is usually on your home screen.
   • Use this method if you want to view the contents of the zip file, but you do not need to extract or edit the files.
2. Go to the folder containing the zip file. The file you are looking for must end with " *. Zip."
3. Tap the zip file. This will display the size of the archive along with the number of files it contains.
4. Press Content preview at the bottom of the screen. This will open a preview of the first file of the archive.
5. Swipe through the images of the preview. These images are snapshots of the files in the zip.

Method 2 of 2: Extract a zip

1. Download iZip from the App Store. This is a free app that allows to extract files from a zip archive, making the content available for editing or sharing. You have to do this to download the program:
   • Open the Open the Files app. This icon is a blue folder and is usually on your home screen.
   • Go to the folder containing the zip file. The free version of iZip will only extract files stored on your iPhone or iPad - if you try to extract a file located on a cloud server such as Dropbox, you will be prompted to upgrade to the paid version.
   • Press and hold the zip file. A black menu strip will appear.
   • Press Share. This will open the Share menu.
   • Press Save to Files. Multiple locations will be displayed.
   • Press the arrow next to "On My iPhone."This will display the iZip folder.
     • If you already see the iZip folder, then it is not necessary to press the arrow.
   • Select the folder iZip. This will select the folder.
   • Press Add in the top right corner of the screen. Now the file will be available in iZip.
   • Return to the home screen and open iZip. This icon is a yellow folder with a zipper.
   • Press Files at the top of the screen. This will display a list of files stored in iZip.
   • Click on the zip file you wish to extract. A pop-up message will appear.
   • Press OK. The files in the zip will now be extracted to the current folder.
   • Tap a file to open it. You will be asked what you wish to do, such as open it with a specific app or share it with others.
