Silver is often used to make jewelry and cutlery. If you don't have a chemical cleaner, you can use Coca-Cola or regular Coke instead to clean sterling and gold-plated silver. The acid in the cola will eat through all the dirt and rust on the surface of the silver. When you have soaked the silver in cola, the object will look as good as new again.

Part 1 of 2: Soaking the silver

1. Place the silver object in a bowl or container. Use a bowl large enough for the silver item you want to clean. Make sure the bowl is deep enough so that you can fully submerge the silver. Place the silver in the bottom of the bowl.
2. Let the silver soak for an hour. Leave the silver in the Coke alone. The acid in the cola helps to remove all dirt and residue from the silver. If you want to leave the silver in the Coke longer to clean it longer, leave it there for up to three hours.
   • Check the silver every half hour to see how clean it is.

Part 2 of 2: Removing the Coke residue

1. Polish the silver with a mild dish soap. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water. Dip a soft cloth in the soapy water and wipe the silver clean. Rinse the silver with cold water and rub it dry.

Tips

• If you don't have Coca-Cola, use a different kind of Coke.

Warnings

• Do not soak jewelry with gemstones in cola as the gemstones may come loose.
