Content

Poaching is one of the easiest ways to prepare salmon. Poached salmon is tasty and tender. Moreover, it is a healthy dish due to the high content of good oils. You can poach salmon in the pan, in the microwave, or in your slow cooker. Eat poached salmon warm with fresh lemon wedges, creamy dill sauce or let the salmon cool and sprinkle it in chunks over a salad.

Ingredients

Poached salmon in the pan

  • 750 g. salmon
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup of dry white wine
  • 1 cup of water
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

  • Salt to taste

To step

Method 1 of 3: Poach salmon in the pan

  1. Fry the onion, white wine and water in a frying pan. Place a diced lemon, half a cup of dry white wine and a cup of water in a skillet. Turn the heat to medium and let it simmer.
  2. Put 750 gram salmon pieces in the frying pan. Add more water if needed. The salmon should be about half in water. Turn the stove on to a lower setting so that the moisture simmers just a little bit.
  3. Cook the salmon pieces for about 4 minutes and then turn them over. Cook the other side for 4-5 minutes as well. If the salmon pieces are thin - about 1 cm - cooking the salmon will take less time, about 3-4 minutes on each side. Thicker pieces - 2 to 4 cm - take 8 to 12 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the salmon pieces from the pan. Use a slotted spatula to do this gently. Season the salmon with freshly ground pepper and salt. Serve it while it is still warm.

Method 2 of 3: Poach salmon in the microwave

  1. Place the salmon, lemon slices and chicken stock in an oven dish. Thinly slice a lemon and place the lemon slices on the bottom of a 8 '' x 8 '' baking dish. Place four 175 gram salmon fillets on top of the lemon slices. Sprinkle with salt to taste. Then you add half a cup of chicken stock to the baking dish.
  2. Cover the baking dish with a plastic lid and put it in the microwave for 8 minutes. Cook the salmon fillets for about 8 minutes or until the salmon has turned opaque.
  3. Remove the salmon fillets from the baking dish using a slotted spatula. Place the salmon fillets on a paper towel to drain and let the salmon cool slightly before serving. Enjoy this poached salmon while it is still warm.

Method 3 of 3: Poach salmon in the slow cooker

  1. Put a cup of water and a half cup of white wine in your slow cooker. Turn the slow cooker on high and heat the mixture for 20 to 30 minutes.
  2. Place the onion, lemon and salmon fillets in the slow cooker. Chop an onion and slice a lemon. Add the onion, lemon wedges and four small salmon fillets to the slow cooker mixture.
  3. Cook the salmon on low for about 20 minutes or until the salmon is opaque. Remove the salmon from the slow cooker with a slotted spatula and serve with fresh lemon wedges.
