Now that we have YouTube on our mobile devices, we can now watch videos in places we never thought possible a few years ago. Unfortunately, YouTube does need an internet connection to stream videos to your device, and you may not have access to Wi-Fi or the cellular network. But if you plan a little ahead, you can download videos to your device when you do have an Internet connection, and then watch them later, even without an Internet connection.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Download videos on iPhone or iPad

  1. Launch the App Store. You cannot download videos directly from Safari or the YouTube app, so you need another app from the App Store to download videos to your iOS device.
  2. Install an app to download videos. Type Video Downloader in the search field and view the results. There are many apps with similar names that offer similar functions. In this article, we use Video Downloader Lite Super - Vdownload by George Young app. If you found it, download and install the app.
    • There are many such apps in the App Store, so choose which one you want to use.
    • Apps to download videos are not supported by YouTube, so they are sometimes removed from the App Store. In that case you can choose a different app.
  3. Launch the app you installed. Find the app on your device and start the app.
  4. Go to YouTube. Find the browser in the app and type youtube.com in the address bar to go to YouTube.
  5. Search for a video. Search YouTube for a video you want to download and play the video. When a menu appears with the option to download the video, select "Download", name the file and tap "Save". You can also open the menu by tapping and holding the center of the video image.
  6. View your downloaded video. You can find your downloaded videos in the "Files" section.

Method 2 of 3: Download videos on Android

  1. Launch the web browser on your Android device. Go to https://youtube.com.
  2. Go to the video you want to download. Search YouTube for the video you want to download and go to its page.
  3. Copy the web address of the video. Tap and hold the address, then select "Copy" to copy the address from the video.
  4. Open a new tab in your browser. Search online for Video Download to find a website that allows you to download online videos from places like YouTube. In this example we use the website ssyoutube.com. Go to http://ssyoutube.com. Tap and hold the text box next to Download until "Paste" appears. Tap "Paste" to paste the previously copied video address into the box.
  5. Tap Download. After a quick check, the website will show you a number of options with download links for different resolutions and formats on the right.
    • The "MP4" format will be playable by most apps on Android.
  6. Tap the desired resolution to download your video. You can keep an eye on the progress in the notification panel. Wait for the download to complete before continuing.
  7. Open your notification panel and tap the downloaded file. When the download is complete, you can pull down your notifications and tap the downloaded file to view it.
    • If you can't find the video, or if you've cleared the notification, tap your device's file manager (sometimes called "My Files" in Apps) and go to the "Downloads" folder. Here you will find the downloaded video.

  3. Open a new tab in your browser. Search online for Video Download to find a website that allows you to download online videos from places like YouTube. 4. Tap Download. After a quick check, the website will show you a number of options with download links for different resolutions and formats on the right.
    • The "MP4" format will be playable by most apps.
  5. Tap the desired resolution to download your video.
  6. Select "Save". If Internet Explorer asks you whether you want to open or save the file, choose save.
