Water droplets can cause unsightly stains on fabric. Don't worry, such stains are easy to remove. If the stain is on a piece of clothing or rug, use a damp cloth and an iron to blot the stain out. If the water stain is somewhere on upholstery, a solution of water and vinegar is ideal to get the stain out. Before you know it, the fabric is all right again!

To step

Method 1 of 2: Remove stains from washable clothes

  1. Place a white towel on an ironing board. Spread the towel on the ironing board so that it lies flat. This provides a smooth and absorbent surface on which the fabric can lie. Do not use a colored towel for this, as the pigment in the towel can run on the fabric.
    • This method is suitable for clothing and fabrics such as tablecloths or napkins.
    • You can also use the towel to rub out the stain first.
  2. Mix 125 ml vinegar and 0.5 l water in a spray bottle. It is best to use distilled water for this, as it contains very few mineral deposits or impurities. This prevents more stains on the fabric. Put the measured vinegar and water in the atomizer and screw the lid on tightly and then shake the bottle so that both liquids are mixed together.
    • Halve the ingredients if you're using a smaller spray bottle. For example, use 60 ml vinegar and 250 ml water.
    • White vinegar works best for cleaning textiles.
  3. Press a microfiber cloth over the stain to soak up the liquid. Gently press the cloth to blot the stain. This will prevent the vinegar and water solution from wetting the filling under the liner. Keep dabbing until the fabric has lightened in color, indicating that it is drying.
    • Use a white cloth to prevent the color of the cloth from transferring to the fabric.
  4. Dry the area with a hair dryer to prevent mold growth. The filling underneath the fabric is a perfect breeding ground for mold when it gets wet. To avoid this, make sure the area is dry. Set the hair dryer on the cool setting and aim the nozzle at the damp spot. Move the hair dryer over the wet area until it is nicely dry.
    • If you don't have a hair dryer, run a fan in the direction of the area.
    • Do not set the hair dryer on the warm setting, as this can scorch the fabric.
