Content

If you've read the manga comic or watched the anime, then you know that Naruto and the other ninjas run in a very unique way. You may not be able to run as fast as Naruto, but you can mimic his style. Step forward with your right foot, lean forward with your back straight and keep your head up to see where you are going. Keep both arms straight back, think of your favorite Naruto fight scene when you're ready to run, and sprint from it!

To step

Part 1 of 2: Prepare to run

  1. Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily. Try to act like Naruto to get into character, and consider dressing like him if possible. Make sure you wear suitable running shoes. Choose a flat surface to run on — an area without too many obstacles to trip over.
  2. Keep in mind that running like Naruto is not a normal way to run and can cause injury. People usually run in such a way that their arms and legs work together to make each step more powerful. In the Naruto series, the characters often stretch their hands and arms backwards to reduce air resistance. They have trained for years to increase the strength in their leg muscles, so they do not need the extra force of pushing off. You can imitate this running style, but you will not be able to learn it as well as Naruto: he uses a non-existent power (in the series called Chakara) to increase the strength of the legs and make this running style effective. To visually imitate Naruto’s ninja running style, all you have to do is lean forward as you run and keep your hands and arms straight back behind your back.
  3. Stand in the starting position. Step forward with your right foot, extend your arms straight back and slightly bend your knees. Look forward and focus on where you want to run.

Part 2 of 2: Run like Naruto

  1. Bend your torso forward, but try to keep your back straight. Bend your knees and tilt your entire torso forward. In theory, this gives your enemies a smaller target, making you harder to see and harder to hit with weapons. Keep your head up by tilting your neck so that you can see where you are running.
    • Tilt your torso forward about 30 to 40 degrees. Don't lean too far or you risk falling on your face.
    • Imagine you are running in a race and you are almost at the finish line. Your chest and torso should cross the finish line first, not your arms.
  2. Keep your arms straight back. Keep them stretched while you run, although it may be difficult to maintain. Turn your palms so that they are facing up. In theory, this is all good for reducing drag, which could make you run faster.
    • Don't swing your arms or move them in all directions. Hold them slightly loosely in position so that your concentration is on your feet, but stretched out enough so that they don't rock back and forth when you run. If you tighten your arms too much, you will lose your concentration.
    • Try to let your arms hang at your sides when you run. If you can keep your arms completely relaxed while you run, they may fly back on their own if you run fast enough.
  3. Run fast. Sprint forward with your arms loosely behind your body. Naruto-style running uses different leg muscles than normal running, so it will likely be difficult at first. Keep practicing to get faster. Running this way also requires better endurance than normal running, so don't expect to be able to keep it up for long right away.
    • Start at a slow pace. Run somewhat normally, but tilt your upper body forward. You can gradually increase the pace and let your arms fly after you.
  4. Keep your balance. If you run bent over with your arms back, one wrong move will make you fall forward. Make sure your weight is balanced over your entire body. Keep your head up and use your arms to balance yourself as you lean forward. Always watch where you are going and try not to fall.

Tips

  • Check out Naruto to see how they run in the series and get a better view.
  • Some Naruto characters also run normally. In one of the OVAs is a scene in which the main characters run without their arms outstretched.

Warnings

  • Running like Naruto will likely draw a lot of attention if you're the only one doing it.
