This wikiHow shows you how to search all Facebook posts for keywords and filter the results by posting date.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Search all messages

  1. Using a web browser, go to Facebook.com.
    • Log in to your Facebook account if you are not automatically logged in. You will need to enter your email address or phone number, as well as your password.
  2. Click in the search box. The search box can be found in the blue bar at the top of your screen.
  3. Enter a keyword in the search box. This way you can search all people, messages and photos.
  4. Press ↵ Enter on your keyboard. The search will now be performed and all relevant results will be displayed, including groups, photos, people and pages.
  5. Click on the tab Messages. You will find this tab next to the option Everything at the bottom of the search box at the top of the page. You will now see all public posts and the posts from your friends that contain your search term.
  6. Choose a posting date under DATE POSTED. You can find this heading in the column on the left. Choose a date here to see a list of older messages.

Method 2 of 2: Search messages you've liked

  1. Using a web browser, go to Facebook.com.
    • Log in to your Facebook account if you are not automatically logged in. You will need to enter your email address or phone number, as well as your password.
  2. Go to your own profile page. You can do this by clicking your name next to the Home button in the navigation bar at the top of your screen, or by clicking your name at the top of the navigation menu on the left side of your screen.
  3. Click View Activity Log. This button can be found in the bottom right corner of your cover photo.
  4. Click on the search box of your activity log. This search box can be found at the top of your activity log and works differently from a regular Facebook search. This option allows you to search through all of your activities, including posts, likes, comments, events, and profile updates.
  5. Enter a search term you remember from the post.
    • With a shorter search you will get more results.
  6. Press ↵ Enter on your keyboard. The search will now be performed and all activities with the keyword will be displayed, including your posts, posts you've been tagged in, posts from others, and posts you've hidden.
  7. Scroll down to find older posts. The activities in the activity log are displayed in reverse chronological order. If you scroll down you will see older posts.

Tips

  • You can use the navigation menu on the left side of your activity log to filter your search results and view only your own messages, the messages you are tagged in, messages from others, or hidden messages.
