This wikiHow teaches you how to play music on multiple Alexa devices throughout your home. After setting up all your devices in the Alexa app, you can use voice commands to play music in different rooms. Currently this only works on the Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Show. You can only play music in multiple rooms. Timers, alarms, flash briefings and audiobooks can only be played on one device.

To step

1. Make sure your Alexa devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. All Echoes must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for multi-room mode to work.
   • If you have a dual-band router, make sure your devices are all connected to the same band. Dual-band routers broadcast two different networks with usually "5 GHz" and "2.4 GHz" in the name. If possible, connect all devices to the 5 GHz band.
2. Open the Alexa app. Open the Alexa mobile app on your Android or iOS phone and log in to your Amazon account. It's the light blue app with a white speech bubble outline.
   • Make sure you are signed in to the same Amazon account that you registered your Alexa device (s) with.
3. Tap on ☰. It's in the top left corner. This will open a pop-out menu on the left side of the screen.
4. Tap on Settings. This is at the bottom of the menu.
5. Tap on Multi-room music. This is located in the "Audio Groups" section under the blue "Set up a new device" button.
6. Tap on Create group. This is a blue button.
   • Skip this step if this is your first time creating a group.
7. Select a group name. You can select a default name from the drop-down list or enter your own custom name by selecting "Custom".
8. Select the Echo devices you want to add to the group and tap Create group. A check mark appears in the box on the left when a device is selected. Tap the blue "Create Group" button at the bottom to create a group for the devices you selected. It may take a few minutes to save the group and apply your changes to the devices.
9. Play music in the group you just created. In a room with one of the Echo devices, just say the artist, song or genre and name of the group you want to play the music on.
   • For example, if you created a group called "Downstairs" that only contains the Echo devices on the first floor, you could say: Alexa, play Daft Punk downstairs, and a Daft Punk song will play on all of the Echo devices on the first floor.
10. Repeat these steps to create additional groups. For example, you can create a group "Downstairs" and "Upstairs", or even and a group "Everywhere".
    • You can also create groups with just one device. These are ideal for bedrooms, such as "Alexa, play Christmas music in Dan's bedroom."

Tips

• Bluetooth does not work with Alexa devices while they are in Multi-room mode.
• Since the Alexa voice remote works via Bluetooth, it will not work while Multi-Room Mode is playing.
• Echo devices currently do not support multi-room music from third parties such as the Eufy Genie.
