Screen protectors prevent cracks in your electronic devices, but if you apply it incorrectly or your screen is not completely smooth, it can happen that air bubbles become trapped underneath. Once you have applied the screen protector, it is difficult to remove the air bubbles unless you remove the screen protector and reattach it. If you have air bubbles on the edges of your screen, you can easily remove them with oil.

Method 1 of 2: Reapply the screen protector

1. Lift one corner of your screen protector with a razor blade to remove it easily. Gently slide the sharp side of a razor blade under one corner of your screen protector. Keep the blade horizontal so that you don't accidentally scratch your screen. Once you lift the corner of your screen protector, it will slowly detach from your device. Once the adhesive peels off the protector, remove the screen protector from your device.
   • Do not try to bend the screen protector, this may break the protector.
   • Many screen protectors can be removed and reapplied multiple times.
2. Clean and dry your screen with a lint-free cloth. Dust particles on your screen are the most common reason for air bubbles under your screen protector. Wet the corner of a cloth with rubbing alcohol and wipe your screen with it to remove any dust. After the wet cloth, use a lint-free cloth to dry your screen thoroughly.
   • You can also use individually wrapped wet wipes that are suitable for cleaning screens. These wipes are available in electronics stores.

   Tip: Work in a dust-free room. If you have air conditioning, turn it off first to prevent a lot of dust from swirling around.

   
   
3. Remove the last bits of fabric with masking tape. Stick a strip of masking tape on your screen and press it gently so that it sticks. Gently peel off the adhesive tape to remove smaller dust particles from the screen. Repeat this over the entire screen. Make sure to overlap the area you have already cleaned so that you don't miss any spots.
   • Cover your screen completely with adhesive tape if you want to clean everything in one go.
4. Reapply the screen protector. Make sure that the corners of your screen protector are flush with those of your mobile device so that the protector will not be skewed on your screen. Place one corner of the protector against your screen and gently press it into place once you are happy with the position of the screen protector. The glue on the back of the screen protector immediately sticks to the display.
   • Apply the screen protector to your screen in a humid room, such as a bathroom. This reduces the risk of air bubbles.
5. Rub your finger or a credit card on the surface of your screen protector. Once the screen protector is stuck to your display, place your finger or the corner of a credit card in the center of the screen. Push from the center of the screen to the corners to remove air bubbles from beneath your screen protector. Do this over the entire screen until you have removed all air bubbles.
   • Reapply the screen protector or consider buying a new screen protector if there are still air bubbles under your screen protector after these steps.

Method 2 of 2: Remove air bubbles from the edges with oil

1. Wet the end of a cotton swab with oil. Use olive or vegetable oil for the best results. Pour 1–2 tsp (5–10 ml) of the oil into a small bowl so that you can easily dip the end of a cotton swab into the oil. Cover the cotton swab with a thin layer of the oil, but not so much that it drips off.
2. Rub the cotton swab against the edge with the bubble. Shake off any excess oil from your cotton swab and work around the edges of your screen protector. Apply a thin layer of oil to the edges so that it can get under your screen protector. The oil removes the air bubbles and thus ensures a perfect seal.

   Tip: If applying the oil doesn't clear the air bubbles, try gently lifting the corner of your screen protector with your fingernail or a razor blade to help the oil get under the surface.

   
   
3. Push the screen protector back into place and remove the residual oil. If your screen protector does not have air bubbles on the edges of the screen, push it firmly against the screen so that it sticks properly. Use a paper towel to dry the edges of the screen protector and remove any residual oil.
   • Push the edges of your screen protector to see if any oil comes out from underneath the protector.

Tips

• Some screens are not completely smooth, so air bubbles will always form.
