If you make your own lip gloss you can decide for yourself which of your favorite scent, flavor and color you want to add. Lip gloss is easy to make and for little money you can make a whole supply for yourself and your friends. Read more about how to quickly make a lip gloss with petroleum jelly, a cooling lip gloss with peppermint or a beautiful pink (n) lip gloss for which you use an old lipstick.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Method one: The quick lip gloss

  1. Scoop some petroleum jelly into a bowl with a spoon. Make sure it is a microwave safe bowl and not a metal bowl. Use as much petroleum jelly as you want. You can make a jar full of lip gloss if you use the whole jar of petroleum jelly.
  2. Melt the petroleum jelly in the microwave. Set the microwave on high for about 30 seconds. Then you stir briefly through the petroleum jelly. If it is still lumpy, put the petroleum jelly in the microwave for a while until it is smooth and liquid.
  3. Add some fragrance or flavor to the petroleum jelly by adding a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Try rose, almond, vanilla, cinnamon, lavender, or another favorite fragrance.
  4. Add a tablespoon of honey. This will add shine and a sweet taste to your lips. Since honey has antibacterial and moisturizing properties, it is also a great way to keep your lips in optimal condition and to keep them from drying out.
    • If you don't want to use honey, you can skip this step. Your lip gloss will still shine.
    • If you want to use a different sweetener, that's fine. Keep in mind that your lip gloss will have a shorter shelf life because sugar, maple syrup and other sweeteners will spoil over time.
  5. Stir the mixture together until it is smooth. If you want, you can add more honey or essential oil to create even more flavor or fragrance.
  6. Pour it into a jar. You can use the petroleum jelly jar or a nice make-up or old lip gloss box.
  7. Let it solidify at room temperature or put it in the refrigerator to cool. Do not use it until it has solidified. This lip gloss will stay a little soft so apply it with your fingers or a makeup brush or sponge.

Method 2 of 3: Method two: Peppermint lip gloss

  1. Gather your ingredients. This lip gloss needs a little more preparation. But the results are well worth the extra time and expense. You need the following ingredients:
    • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
    • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped beeswax
    • 5 drops of peppermint oil
  2. Make sure you have the jars ready because this lip gloss sets rather quickly. You can then immediately pour the mixture into it.Use small lip balm boxes and tubes or pour the entire contents into a small glass (weck) jar.
  3. Heat the wax in an au bain marie pan until it is completely liquid. Beeswax is hard at room temperature but softens when you melt it. When mixed with the other ingredients, it creates a fine, shiny and waxy texture.
  4. Add the coconut oil and olive oil to the beeswax. Stir well with a spoon. Add the peppermint oil and stir again.
    • For a looser greasy lip gloss, you can add an extra spoonful of coconut oil.
    • If you want a subtle peppermint scent just add 2-3 drops.
  5. Carefully pour the mixture into the jars or sleeves. It is best to wash the pan immediately after pouring the mixture out before it starts to solidify.
  6. Let the lip gloss set. Wait two hours or overnight before using the lip gloss. It is ready when it has cooled completely.

Method 3 of 3: Method three: Pink (n) lip gloss

  1. Gather your ingredients. This beautiful lip gloss contains ingredients that you can get at most health food stores. You need this:
    • 1 tablespoon of shea butter
    • 2 tablespoons of sweet almond oil
    • 1 tablespoon of chopped beeswax
    • 5 drops of vitamin E oil
    • An old lipstick with a color you like
  2. Prepare your jars, boxes or tubes so that you can pour the mixture into them immediately.
  3. Melt the beeswax in a double boiler. Stir until the beeswax is smooth and runny.
  4. Add the shea butter, almond oil and vitamin E oil. Stir into the beeswax until it becomes smooth and shiny.
  5. Use a toothpick to break off a piece of lipstick and put it in the pan. If you add a small piece of lipstick to the mixture, the lip gloss will be a shade lighter than the color of the lipstick. Stir in the lipstick well until it is completely mixed with the other ingredients.
    • If you want a darker lip gloss add a whole lipstick and stir well.
    • Add 5 drops of rose essential oil or any other fragrance you like. Geranium, for example, is also less expensive than rose oil.
  6. Pour the lip gloss into the jars. Wash the pan immediately so that the mixture doesn't solidify and cover your pan with a layer of lip gloss.
  7. Let the lip gloss set. It is ready to use after 2 hours or overnight, when it has cooled down completely.

Tips

  • Jars: you can find nice jars and boxes in hobby stores. They often have empty pill boxes at the pharmacy.
  • Flavors: you can buy flavors for lip gloss in the supermarket or toko: use flavor drops that are also used for pastries such as orange blossom or rose water. You can buy essential oils for the fragrance and beeswax at health food stores. You can also buy these ingredients via the internet.
  • Make sure the jars and sleeves are clean before putting in the lip gloss.

Warnings

  • As with all products that you apply to your skin, it is best to first test the product in a very small amount on your skin to see if you have an allergic reaction to it. If you are allergic to honey or bee pollen, you should probably not use this product.
