Uber is an on-demand service to order private drivers from your iPhone or Android device. This service uses special software to find the nearest driver depending on your location. Make no mistake, this isn't about carpooling or just riding with someone - Uber sends a private taxi driver. Payment is made via the credit card as set on your account. This article will walk you through the process of using Uber to order a driver.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Signing up with Uber

  1. Visit the Uber website. Uber operates in several cities, where the drivers do not work specifically for Uber, but pay a percentage to Uber to participate.
  2. Click on the link to sign up. You will be asked to create an account. Uber needs your name, mobile number, email, language preference and bank account number. You need a valid credit card to use the Uber service.
  3. Read the conditions carefully. Make sure you agree with Uber's privacy and terms of use before continuing.
  4. Click the Create account button to create your account. Your account will be created and you will receive a confirmation email. Now you can already use Uber.

Part 2 of 2: Ordering a driver

  1. Download the app. The Uber app is available for free from the Apple App Store, the Google Play Store and the BlackBerry App World. Install the app on your device and open it.
  2. Sign In. If you have downloaded the Uber app, you will have to log in the first time you use it. Log in with your username and password with which you are logged in.
  3. Choose your type of transport. There are 5 different cars you can choose from with Uber, depending on where you are. Use the slider at the bottom of the app to specify your preference. The 5 different types are:
    • Black Car - This is Uber's original service. Choosing Black Car will ensure that an upper-class sedan will arrive, with room for 4 people.
    • Taxi - This allows you to order a taxi that works with Uber. This is the same as a regular taxi, except that you pay via the app.
    • UberX - This allows you to order a normal car with space for 4 people. This is Uber's budget option.
    • SUV - Allows you to order an SUV with space for 6 people. This is a lot more expensive than the Black Car service.
    • LUX - This allows you to order an upper class, luxury car with space for 4 people. This is Uber's most expensive service.
  4. Indicate your location. Once you have indicated the type of car, mark your position on a map with a pin. This pin indicates where you expect the driver to pick you up. You can also indicate this place by typing it. Once your location is set, tap "Set Pickup Location".
    • You will have to confirm your selection in the next screen.
    • You will be given the option to pay with Uber credit that you have in your account. This option is on by default.
  5. Wait for your driver. You will receive an estimate of how long it will take for the driver to arrive. If no car is available, try again a few minutes later as a driver may have just become available.
    • The Uber app gives you the driver's phone number. You can use this to discuss special circumstances with the driver.
    • If you want to cancel the reservation, you will be charged a fee of $ 10, but only if you cancel after 5 minutes.
    • Pick-up times vary by place, time and how many customers there are.
  6. Know the rates. Uber fares are based on a combination of time and distance. If the car is below (18 km / h), it will be calculated per minute. If the car drives above (18 km / h), you will be charged per km. You also have to pay a starting fee, which varies by location.
    • This does not apply to the taxi service, as the costs are determined by independent drivers.
    • The costs vary by city, so check the Uber website to see what costs you can expect in a particular area. All cities have a minimum rate.
  7. Never pay cash. All payments are automatically handled via Uber (via your credit card). When using the TAXI service, you can indicate which tip should be given (via the Uber Payment Settings) - the default is 20%. You don't have to do this with Uber's other services, including UberX, but tips are appreciated.
    • You can change the default tip for the taxi service on Uber's website. Log in and open the Billing section to change this.
  8. Find a driver via the website or via text message. If you don't have access to the Uber app, you can order a driver via Uber's mobile site or by texting UBR222 with the address and pick-up location.
