Cleaning the toilet is a job that is often postponed. However, it is important that you keep your toilet clean. A dirty toilet looks bad, smells bad and is a source of bacteria. As with many of the less enjoyable tasks in life, it is true that when you use your toilet now you clean it immediately, you later take this off your hands. You can clean your toilet quickly and efficiently with the instructions below.

To step

Method 1 of 3: Fast cleaning method

  1. Collect everything you need for cleaning. If the idea of cleaning a toilet makes you disgusted, it is good to gather everything you need in advance so that you can be done as soon as possible. A pair of rubber gloves should not be missing. Gather as many of the following items as you can find: a toilet brush, hygiene wipes, an old toothbrush that you no longer use, clean cleaning wipes (or paper towels), and / or a toilet cleaner.
    • A cleaning tip: keep a pair of rubber gloves that you use only used to clean the toilet. Buy a pair of gloves in a different color than all your other cleaning gloves. This way you don't accidentally use them to do the dishes.
    • It is also best to always have an all-purpose cleaner at home. You can buy these at the supermarket, but if you want to save money, you can also make your own detergent by adding a tablespoon of dish soap to about 175 milliliters of water.
  2. Scrub the toilet bowl. You can clean the different parts of your toilet in any order you want, but if you are in a hurry, the smartest thing to do is to start with the toilet bowl. If you accidentally splash dirty water from the toilet bowl while you are cleaning, this way you will not get dirty areas that you have cleaned before. Use a toilet brush to scrub off limescale and urine stone. You may need to apply a little more pressure to remove stubborn deposits. For better cleaning, throw some toilet cleaner or all-purpose cleaner into the water and dip the toilet brush in it.
  3. Clean the lid and toilet seat. Now that you've cleaned the toilet bowl, it's time to clean the most important areas you come into contact with - the lid and toilet seat. Use an all-purpose cleaner and paper or cloth towels (or disposable hygienic wipes) to quickly and thoroughly clean the lid and seat on both sides. You can also use an old toothbrush to scrub awkward spots between the toilet seat and bowl, as well as the seat hinges, if you prefer.
  4. Wipe the rest of the toilet quickly. Finally, it is time to clean and shine the porcelain parts of your toilet. Use a spray bottle to spray the outside of your toilet with an all-purpose cleaner. Use a cleaning cloth or paper towel to wipe down the china. Concentrate on the flush button. Another way is to briefly immerse a cleaning cloth or paper towel in a bucket of soapy water or warm water and use it to clean. Submerge the cloth if it is dirty.
    • Start by cleaning the highest point of the toilet - if dirty water or detergent drips down this way, it will only end up in areas that you have not yet cleaned.
    • Don't forget to clean areas that are hard to see, such as the base of the toilet and the back of the sink, which is turned towards the wall. You will probably need pipe cleaners or a toothbrush to properly clean these areas.
  5. Flush the toilet. Your toilet would be there now a lot of should look better than before. Flush your toilet to flush out any dirty water that has accumulated in the toilet bowl. If you have used paper towels to clean your toilet, you can also flush them, if of course you have not used such a large amount that your toilet will become clogged.
    • As a precaution, wash your hands after removing your gloves. Small amounts of water may have splashed inside your gloves when you were cleaning.
    • If your toilet just needed a quick clean, congratulations - you're done now! However, if your toilet has stubborn stains or hasn't been cleaned for a long time, you may have more success with the deep cleaning method described above.

Method 2 of 3: Thorough cleaning method

  1. Wipe the toilet with a damp sponge. It can be useful to quickly rinse your toilet with warm water first. This can then set in and loosen dirt and grime while you clean the rest of the toilet, making your job easier later on. Dampen a sponge with warm water and wipe the sink, lid, toilet seat, base and outside of the toilet bowl. This is often enough to remove all the dirt without the need for a special cleaning agent.
  2. Apply toilet cleaner to the inside of the toilet bowl. Specially formulated toilet cleaners help to remove stains, limescale and urinary stone in the toilet bowl. Spray or dab some detergent under the rim of the toilet bowl, so that it can drip down the sides of the toilet bowl into the water afterwards. It is important to spray cleaning solution under the rim of the toilet bowl - this area is often overlooked and can lead to a dirty brown scale around the edges.
    • Read the directions on the packaging of the toilet cleaner you are using. Many cleaners work best if you let them soak in the toilet bowl for a while before continuing with the cleaning. If so, take a short break before moving on to the next step.
  3. Scrub the inside of the toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Use a stiff toilet brush and thoroughly scrub the inside of the toilet bowl with it. Concentrate on deposits and stains that are just above and below the water level and in the rear part of the pot. The more thoroughly and firmly you brush, the cleaner the toilet bowl will become.
    • Make the most of the toilet cleaner - since now all of the cleaner in the water has flowed into the toilet bowl, you can dip your brush in it a few times and use a little cleaner when scrubbing. This way you can clean the toilet bowl even more thoroughly.
  4. Flush the toilet. This way you rinse the toilet bowl and the brush clean. Continue scrubbing when rinse water drains. The power of the rinse water may not be enough to rinse away all the dirt.
    • If you have stubborn stains, repeat the process. Apply toilet cleaner to the bowl, let it soak in, scrub the stain thoroughly, then flush again until the stain is gone.
  5. Clean the rest of the toilet with a disinfectant cleaner. After you have cleaned the toilet bowl, you should also clean the rest of the toilet, even if your toilet is not that dirty. When you're done, your toilet not only has a beautiful, even shine - your toilet is also free of harmful bacteria.Use an atomizer with an all-purpose cleaner or toilet disinfectant cleaner and spray the entire toilet. Make sure to thoroughly spray the top and bottom of the toilet seat and the entire outside of the toilet bowl, including the base of the bowl. Gently rub the jar with a cloth or paper towel to absorb the detergent and then wipe it away.
  6. Clean the flush knob thoroughly. The flush button must be extra clean because you touch it every time you go to the toilet. If bacteria builds up there, they will be on your fingers after you flush! Spray enough cleaner on the bud so that it is well covered. You get bacteria from the flush button more quickly than from any other part of the toilet. So clean the flushing knob thoroughly.

Method 3 of 3: Clean around the toilet

  1. Remove all objects on top and around the toilet. Before you start, remove anything that might get in the way of cleaning - boxes of tissues, photos, and so on. After all, you want to thoroughly clean your toilet and that is why it is important that you can get to all nooks and crannies
    • Removing objects from and around the toilet not only gives you the opportunity to properly clean the places where they were or stood - it also ensures that they do not get in the way, cannot be affected by strong and harmful cleaning agents and prevents them from accidentally falling into the toilet.
  2. Rinse or dust off the items you had on or around the toilet. Of course you don't want to get your shiny clean toilet dirty again by dropping dust on it from a dusty picture frame or a box of tissues. Put on a pair of clean household gloves and then quickly clean any objects you had on or around the toilet. Wet them and scrub them lightly if they can withstand water or brush them off quickly if they cannot withstand water. Wipe the items with a paper towel and put them back in place.
    • When you're done, take off your gloves and wash your hands to avoid spreading any bacteria.
  3. Spray the floor around the toilet bowl with a disinfectant spray. If your toilet is dirty, the floor around the bowl often is too. Of course you don't want your feet to get dirty every time you go to the toilet, so take advantage of the option to directly clean the floor around the toilet bowl. Use a brush or broom to sweep up loose hair and other debris, especially in the area behind the toilet bowl. Then clean the floor thoroughly with moist paper towels, disposable towels or a cloth cleaning cloth.

Tips

  • Paper towels are ideal for cleaning the outside of the toilet. Because you are throwing these wipes away, you are less likely to spread bacteria. These wipes also absorb the cleaning agent well and do not leave streaks on the toilet. If you are using a cloth cloth, wash it well when you are done and dispose of it separately from your clothes and other cloths.

Warnings

  • Toilet cleaners can be harmful to you, your children and your pets. So keep them in a place where children cannot reach and always follow the directions on the packaging before use.
  • Do not use the toilet brush to clean the toilet seat or the outside of the toilet. This can spread bacteria from the toilet bowl to the rest of your toilet.
