Connecting a smart TV to the internet

This wikiHow teaches you how to set up your smart TV to connect to the internet. You can usually connect to your router wirelessly via WiFi or via a network cable to establish a wired connection.

Method 1 of 2: Connecting via WiFi

1. Open the menu on your smart TV. Press the menu button on your TV remote control to display your TV's menu options on your TV screen.
2. Go to Network Settings. This option allows you to choose the connection type and to establish a new connection to the internet.
   • On some TVs you probably need to use the Settings open it from the menu, and there search for Network settings.
   • Depending on the make and model of your TV, this option may also have a different name such as Wireless Settings or Internet connection.
3. Set up a new wireless connection. Find and choose the option to set up a new wireless connection on your TV screen. This should display a list of all Wi-Fi networks in your immediate vicinity.
4. Choose the name of your WiFi network. Use your TV remote control to choose the WiFi network you want to connect to. You will be asked to enter your password.
5. Enter your WiFi password. You will have to use the remote control of your TV to enter your password. Once your password has been confirmed, your TV will automatically connect to the internet.

Method 2 of 2: Make a wired connection

1. Find the network port on the back of your TV. You can use a network cable to connect your TV to your router.
2. Connect a network cable between your router and your TV. Connect one end of your network cable to your router and the other end into the port on the back of your smart TV.
3. Go to the menu Network Settings on your smart TV. Use your remote control to open the menu on your smart TV and navigate to the network settings.
   • This option can also have another name such as Wireless Settings or Internet connection.
4. Select this option to activate the wired connection. Once this option is activated and your TV is connected to your router, you will be immediately connected to the internet.
