Origami is the art of folding paper to make different shapes and figures. There are many different breeds of origami dogs and other parts of dogs you can make (such as just the head). Origami can be a fun activity and easy to do - you just need a sheet of paper and a hard surface to fold. An intermediate level origami dog takes about 5 to 20 minutes to make, depending on how good you are.

Part 1 of 3: Making the opening folds

  1. Use origami paper or a square piece of paper. Origami paper is already square, but you can also make a square yourself from regular paper. To make a square, take a sheet of paper and fold the top corner over to the other side of the paper until the top edge of the paper rests against the side edge. You now have a triangle. Then cut around the triangle and unfold it. You now have a square.
    • It is easiest to grab the short edge of the paper and fold it down to the long edge. Then cut off the excess paper to get a perfect square.
    • It doesn't matter what color paper you use for this project. Choose a color that you like for your dog.
  2. Admire your hard work. Now that you have made all the folds, turn the shape so that it looks like a dog. With the folds you just made, you made the dog's head, with the front of the plane forming the dog's muzzle. The rest of the shape should form the dog's paws. You should have one shape directly below the head representing its front legs and a second shape representing its back legs and tail.
