Hair is made of proteins, so if it is dry, damaged and brittle it is often due to a protein deficiency. Eating foods rich in protein can help stimulate healthy hair growth, but you can also get results faster. Using a protein mask for your hair can help nourish and moisturize your hair so it looks and feels healthier. Best of all, you can make a protein hair mask with natural ingredients you probably already have at home. A simple mask with eggs and yogurt or avocado and mayonnaise will certainly help, but you can make it even more complicated with a gelatin mask or a mask with bananas, honey and coconut oil. Use one of these masks once or twice a month to get stronger, softer hair that you want to show off proudly to everyone.

Ingredients

Hair mask with eggs and yogurt

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 6 tablespoons (100 ml) of plain yogurt

Hair mask with avocado and mayonnaise

  • 1 ripe avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) mayonnaise

Hair mask with gelatin

  • 1 tablespoon (10 grams) of gelatin powder
  • 180 ml of water
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of honey

Hair mask with bananas, honey and coconut oil

  • 3 overripe bananas
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of coconut oil

To step

Method 1 of 4: Make an egg and yogurt hair mask

  1. Mix the egg yolk and yogurt. In a small bowl, beat 1 egg yolk. Then add 6 tablespoons of plain yogurt and use a spoon to mix all the ingredients together.
    • Egg yolks are high in proteins and fats, thus helping to strengthen and moisturize dry and brittle hair.
    • Yogurt contains lactic acid in addition to protein, which helps to remove dirt and residue from hair care products and to moisturize your hair.
  2. Apply the mask to your hair and leave it on. After mixing the egg yolk and yogurt, smooth the mixture onto your hair, focusing mainly on your ends. Let the mask sit in your hair for about 20 minutes to allow the ingredients to soak in.
    • It's a good idea to put on a shower cap while the mask is in your hair. The mask will heat up so that the proteins can easily penetrate your hair.
  3. Rinse the mask from your hair and wash it as usual. After 20 minutes, rinse the mask from your hair with plain water. Be careful to rinse all remnants of the mask from your hair. Then use your normal shampoo and conditioner to wash your hair as you normally would.
    • Use cold water to rinse the mask from your hair. If you use warm water, the egg yolk can be boiled. This can make it more difficult to rinse the mask out of your hair.

Method 2 of 4: Make an avocado and mayonnaise hair mask

  1. Puree the avocado. Peel and stone an avocado and place it in a small bowl. Puree it with a fork. Keep going until you get a smooth and creamy mixture.
    • Avocado helps to moisturize and repair hair.
  2. Add the mayonnaise. After mashing the avocado, add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of mayonnaise to the bowl. Mix the mayonnaise with the avocado until you have a smooth thick paste.
    • Mayonnaise contains proteins that make your hair stronger, oils that moisturize your hair and vinegar to make your hair shine.
  3. Cover your hair with the mask and let it soak in. Apply the thick paste to your hair gently with your hands and massage the mask into your hair with your fingers. To get the most benefit from the mask, leave it on for about half an hour.
    • To make sure the mask covers your hair completely, use a wide tooth comb to comb the mask through your hair.
  4. Rinse the mask from your hair with water. After you have let the mask soak for half an hour, rinse it from your hair with clean water from the tap or in the shower. Then use your normal shampoo and conditioner to get healthy and hydrated hair.

Method 3 of 4: Make a gelatin hair mask

  1. Mix the water and gelatin powder in a saucepan. Pour 180 ml of water into a small saucepan. Gently sprinkle 1 tablespoon (10 grams) of gelatin powder into the water. At the same time, keep stirring with a whisk to prevent lumps from forming.
    • Gelatin contains keratin, which is a protein that attaches to hair to make it stronger.
    • If your hair needs extra moisture, you can use coconut milk instead of water.
    • You can also use peppermint tea, rosemary tea, or nettle tea instead of water. These teas make your hair shine more.
  2. Heat the mixture until it is steaming. Place the pan with the water and gelatin powder mixture on the stove and heat it over medium heat. Heat the mixture until steam comes out of the saucepan. This should take about 5 to 8 minutes.
    • Stir the mixture regularly while heating so that the gelatin does not stick to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat and add the other ingredients. When the mixture is steaming, remove the pan from the heat and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes. Then add 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of honey. Stir the mixture until all ingredients are well blended.
    • The mixture should still be warm, but not so hot that it is unpleasant to the touch when you add the other ingredients.
    • In addition to vinegar and honey, you can add 1 to 2 tablespoons (50 to 100 grams) of pureed banana or avocado and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of oil such as olive oil, coconut oil, almond oil or argan oil to further moisturize the hair.
  4. Apply the mask to wet hair and leave it on. While the mixture is still warm, apply it to clean, wet hair with your wet hands from roots to ends. When your hair is completely covered, leave the mask on for 10 to 30 minutes.
    • The longer you let the mask soak in your hair, the better the result will be.
    • If you plan to leave the mask in your hair for more than 10 minutes, put on a shower cap or wrap plastic wrap around your head to keep the mask from drying out.
  5. Rinse the mask thoroughly with water. When the time is up, gently rinse the mask from your hair with lukewarm water. Then use a good conditioner and let your hair air dry.
    • To see results, it is usually enough to use the mask once a month. Don't use it more than once a week.

Method 4 of 4: Make a hair mask with bananas, honey and coconut oil

  1. Puree the bananas. You will mash and mix the mask in a blender, but it helps to mash the bananas ahead of time. Peel 3 overripe bananas and put them in a small bowl. Use a fork to mash the fruit so that you get a smooth, thick paste.
    • You can skip this step if you have a very powerful blender.
  2. Mix the bananas, honey and coconut oil in the blender. After you have mashed the bananas, put the thick paste in the bowl of a blender. Add 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of raw honey and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of coconut oil and mash the mixture until it is thick and creamy. This should take about 15 to 30 seconds.
    • If you find that your blender really needs some water to properly mix the mask, add 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) of water.
  3. Apply the mask to your hair and leave it on. Once you have mixed the mask, apply it to your hair section by section to cover your hair completely. Massage it into your scalp as well and put on a shower cap or wrap plastic wrap around your head. Leave the mask on for half an hour.
  4. Rinse the mask from your hair with water. When the time is up, rinse the mask thoroughly with warm water. Then use your regular conditioner and comb or brush your hair to detangle it before allowing it to air dry.

Tips

  • Apply these masks every two weeks or once a month.
  • Do not apply the masks to your hair too often per month. If you do that, you will get her used to it.
  • Apply the mask to all of your hair. Often you forget the sides and back.
  • Massage the mask into the hair roots when applying for best results.
  • Dry hair may benefit from applying a small amount of oil to your hair before and after the process.
