1 Fill the bottle halfway with warm soapy water. The easiest way to clean a stainless steel bottle is to fill it halfway with water and add a few drops of liquid soap. Screw on the bottle cap. Shake it well several times. Unscrew the cap and pour out all the water from the bottle.
  • 2 Rinse and dry the bottle. Rinse the bottle several times with warm water. Turn it over and place it on the crockery shelf.
  • 3 Use a bottle brush. If the bottle neck is too narrow and you can't reach the bottom with a sponge, use a bottle brush. The bottle brush has a long handle that can be used to clean the deepest parts of the bottle. This is especially useful if you have filled the bottle with something other than water.
    • Some stainless steel bottles are sold with this brush. If your bottle came without a brush, order it online or buy it from your local hardware store.
  • 4 Wipe the edges. If the stainless steel bottle has a screw cap, be sure to wipe the screw on the neck of the bottle. Soak a sponge in soapy water and wipe it off the inside and outside of the bottle neck. Run the sponge along the neck of the bottle several times to rinse it out.
  • Method 2 of 3: Alternative Cleaning Methods

    1. 1 Place the water bottle in the dishwasher. If you have a dishwasher, place the stainless steel bottle in it along with the rest of the utensils. Place the bottle upside down after removing the cap. Place any removable parts, such as lids and straws, in there too.
      • Add the required amount of detergent to the dishwasher, close it and start the normal wash cycle.
      • Make sure your stainless steel bottle is dishwasher safe before placing it. Look at the bottom of the bottle for the words "Dishwasher Safe". Painted and insulated bottles are most likely not dishwasher safe.
    2. 2 Use vinegar to clean the bottle. Fill a stainless steel bottle with white vinegar to about 1/5 of its volume. Fill the rest of the space with water. Leave the bottle to infuse overnight. In the morning, pour the vinegar and water solution out of the bottle. Rinse the bottle thoroughly with water and then place it upside down on a dish rack to dry.
    3. 3 Use baking soda and bleach. Add a teaspoon (5 g) of bleach and a teaspoon (5 g) of baking soda to the bottle. Fill the bottle up to the top with water. Leave the bottle overnight. In the morning, pour the contents of the bottle, and then rinse it thoroughly with water. Place it upside down to dry.
      • This method effectively removes unpleasant odors from the bottle.

Method 3 of 3: Choosing the Right Stainless Steel Bottle

    1. 1 Find a bottle with a removable bottom. Many newer stainless steel bottle models have a twist-off bottom for easy access to the bottom and interior of the bottle that cannot be reached in a bottle with a narrow neck and neck.
    2. 2 Choose a bottle with a wide mouth. Bacteria can lurk in the corners of narrow-necked bottles. Wide-necked bottles have less curved walls, leaving little room for bacteria. These bottles have much easier access to the inside, making it easier to clean.
    3. 3 The bottle must be made of food grade stainless steel. Not all stainless steels are created equal. There are a number of different stainless steel alloys available. Before you buy a stainless steel bottle, check the description on the label or on the bottle itself to make sure the bottle is 18/8 or 304 stainless steel. These grades stand for food grade stainless steel.

    Tips

    • Do not heat or freeze the stainless steel bottle to avoid ruining it.
    • Keep the bottle away from heat sources. Stainless steel has a fairly high strength index, but if you leave the bottle for a long time in extreme heat (for example, in a hot car), it can deform.
    • Rinse the bottle at the end of each day. If you have used the bottle during the day, wash it.
