If you don't have a bag clip, there are some other options for keeping your chips fresh. The easiest way to do this is to squeeze all the air out of the bag and then fold the top edge of the bag over several times. If you do this, keep the chip bag folded down and slightly heavy on the folds so that the bag does not open. Another option is to fold the corners towards the center of the bag and then fold the top edge of the bag a few times. Then tuck your thumbs into the flaps in the corners and wrap them around the top edge of the bag to seal the bag airtight.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Using a simple folding technique

  1. Put the bag down and flatten it to get all the air out. Shake the bag a bit so that all the chips are at the bottom of the bag. Place the chip bag on the back so that the front is facing up. Smooth the top part of the bag three or four until it is flat. Work from the bottom up to get the excess air out of the bag.
    • This is an easy method, but you won't be able to keep the air out of the bag unless you put something heavy on the top of the bag.
    • The more air there is in the bag, the faster the chips will become stale.
  2. Store the bag upside down so that it lies on the folds. Take the bag and turn it upside down so that the folds are at the bottom of the bag. The bag of chips should stay folded on its own. To prevent the bag from unfolding on its own, place a vase, bowl or other heavy weight on the folds so that they do not open.
    • The bag can open slowly on its own if you don't put anything heavy on the folds.

Method 2 of 2: Use a stronger folding technique

  1. Place the bag on a table and smooth the top to get the excess air out. Shake the bag a bit so that all the chips are at the bottom of the bag. Place the chip bag on the back on a flat surface so that the front is facing up. Then flatten the top part of the bag with your palm. Do this four or five times so that you iron a fold in the sides of the bag.
    • This method seals the bag the best, but requires a bit more work. The bag must also be empty for this, so you may not be able to do this if the bag is almost completely full.
    • This method is quite difficult to perform with a smaller bag of chips. It is better to fold the top edge of a smaller chip bag.
  2. Tuck your thumbs into the flaps in the corners and fold them up around the top edge of the pocket. To close the bag, keep the folds at the top of the bag closed with your index, middle, ring and little fingers. Put your thumbs between the corners and the pocket. Lift the bag and push the folds down and pull up on the corners to fold up and close the top edge of the bag.
    • The tension between the corners and the folds at the top will keep the bag closed.

Tips

  • Once a bag of chips has been opened, the chips will start to get stale. Eat the chips within one to two weeks so that you can enjoy them while they are still fresh.
