Would you like to go to the pool or the beach in a bikini? Putting on a bikini can be quite difficult. After all, you don't have that much fabric to cover your body, so it has to be just right. In this article you will learn how to put on a bikini so that it doesn't shift and you look good. This way you can walk confidently on the beach in no time.

To step

Part 1 of 2: Put on your bikini

  1. Take your clothes off. A bikini only covers a very small part of your body, so the first step in putting it on is to undress yourself. Take off your clothes, but also your bra and underpants. Try not to wear a bikini over your underwear; there is simply not enough material for that and most likely your underwear will come out from under your bikini. If you want to be able to move freely and feel comfortable in your own skin, that is of course not an ideal situation!
  2. Put on the bikini bottoms. Bikini bottoms usually cover about as much as normal underwear. The top edge of the bottom should fit snugly around your hips and run just above your hip bones, showing your belly button. The back of the bottom should be tight around your buttocks. Depending on the style of the bikini bottom, your buttocks are partially or completely covered.
    • Make sure your bikini bottoms are not too loose. If so, you will need a smaller size.
    • Also, your bikini bottoms shouldn't be so tight that the elastic cuts into your skin. If so, it is better to get slightly larger bottoms.
  3. Secure the bikini top under your breasts. Put on the top in the same way you would with a bra and fasten the strap around your chest first. It may help to pull the top on backwards first so that you can secure it on your chest instead of on your back. Then turn the top right side out.
    • If you have a bikini with thin straps, it is best to tie a knot first and then tie a bow. Fasten the bikini so that it stays in place, but is not so tight that the straps cut into your skin.
    • If you can easily tuck a hand under the strap of your bikini, it is best to tighten it a bit more or buy a smaller size bikini. If it is so tight it hurts, you may need to go up a size.
  4. Adjust the cups. Place your breasts in the center of the cups to cover them as best as possible. Make sure the fabric of the cups covers your breasts completely. If it feels like they are being squashed or your breasts are popping out on the side of the cups, you may want to size up. If the fabric is too loose around your breasts, you can size down or go for a bikini with padded cups. There are all kinds of bikini tops, each of which is tied in a different way:
    • Triangle top: This style offers the least amount of support and coverage, so it is best suited for small breasts. Make sure your breasts are in the center of the triangular cups. If the cups are loose on the chest strap, you can move them slightly for optimal coverage.
    • Halter top: This style offers a little more support and is therefore a good choice for slightly larger breasts. Place your breasts in the center of the cups and pull the fabric over your breasts to ensure optimal coverage.
    • Bandeau top: This top has no shoulder straps, so it is very important that you choose the right size. Wear the top so that your breasts are in the center of the cups. The top must be tight; if you notice that it is slipping down, it is better to take a smaller size or go for a top with straps.
    • Underwired top: This bikini top resembles a bra and has roughly the same fit. Make sure that the underwires support your breasts well and then place them in the cups.
  5. Adjust the straps. It is important to adjust the straps to make sure your bikini top stays in place and provides adequate support for your breasts. Make sure the straps are tight enough to hold your bikini in place, but not so tight that the straps cut into your shoulders. Your bikini top should be as comfortable as your bra.
    • Adjust your bikini straps in the same way as your bra straps. Use the plastic slide clasp to loosen or tighten the straps.
    • If the straps don't have a slide fastener, you will need to adjust them by tightening or loosening the knot a bit. Make sure the straps are tight enough to support your breasts, but not so tight that they cut into the skin. Make a bow with the ends of the straps.
    • Some bikini tops have a halter closure, where the shoulder straps meet at your neck. Also with these types of tops, make sure that you fasten the straps tight enough to support your breasts, but not so tight that the top is no longer comfortable.
    • If you cannot adjust the straps of your top so that your breasts are well supported or if they cause pain in your shoulders or back, you may want to go for a different type of top. For example, try a bikini top with normal shoulder straps or padded cups.
  6. Walk around the room to make sure your bikini doesn't move. Also try to hop or jump a bit. After all, in order to feel optimally at ease, you have to be able to move freely.

Part 2 of 2: Wearing your bikini comfortably

  1. Consider waxing your bikini line. If you are sure that no hair will come out from under your bikini bottom, you will feel a lot better during long beach days. You can shave or trim your hair, which are inexpensive ways to boost your confidence. If you want to ensure that the hair stays away a little longer, you can consider getting waxed.
    • To see how much hair you will need to remove, put on your bikini bottoms and see which hair comes out from under the bottoms. Then remove enough hair to fix this problem.
    • Some people also shave their legs and underarms to get bikini ready.
  2. Remove dead skin cells. A large part of your skin can be seen in a bikini, so you can remove the dead skin cells a few days before you go to the beach to give your skin extra radiance. Use an exfoliating glove or exfoliating product in the bath or shower to give your arms, legs and other parts of your skin a good clean. This removes dead skin cells and gives your skin a beautiful glow.
    • Clean your skin gently and with circular movements. Don't scrub too hard to avoid damaging the skin.
    • Don't forget your back. Use a scrub brush to also clean less easily accessible parts of your body.
  3. Use a rich moisturizer. After cleansing your skin, you can use your favorite cream to keep your skin from drying out. That way, your skin is optimally prepared for your beach day. You can also use coconut oil instead of a cream to make your skin more supple.
  4. Don't forget your sunscreen. If you spend a day in the sun, you need a lot of sunscreen to protect your skin. Apply sunscreen with SPF 16 five to ten minutes before you go out into the sun and follow the instructions on the bottle for the rest of the day. This will prevent you from having painful red shoulders at the end of the day and reduce the risk of skin cancer.
    • When you go swimming, use water-resistant sunscreen. You will also have to apply this cream several times during the day.
    • Even if you want to get a tan, you need sunscreen. The cream prevents you from burning, but does not completely block the sun's rays. It is better to slowly apply a tan than if you do not use a cream and let your skin burn.
  5. Bring something to cover up. If you don't want to be exposed to the sun all day, you can, for example, bring a dress or a cardigan to wear during the day. This way you protect your body against the sun, but you don't need half a bottle of sunscreen!
