Buyers and sellers can cancel orders on eBay as long as both parties agree. You can cancel an order after the seller has created a case in the Resolution Center. Both the buyer and the seller must agree to this.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Cancel an order as a buyer

  1. Surf to eBay at http://www.ebay.com/.
  2. Click on “My eBay” and log in with your username and password. You will now be taken to “My eBay Summary”.
  3. Move your mouse over “My eBay” at the top right of the screen and click on “Purchase history.
  4. Click on the username of the seller from whom you want to cancel an order. The seller's profile will now appear on your screen.
  5. Click on “Contact.
  6. Enter the product number of the product you have ordered and indicate in the appropriate field that you want to cancel the order.
  7. Click on “Continue.
  8. Explain to the seller why you want to cancel your order and ask if he or she is willing to cancel the transaction in the Resolution Center. In most cases, eBay sellers will cooperate if you have a good reason to cancel the transaction.
  9. Click on “Send. Your message will now be sent to the seller from whom you ordered the product. The seller will respond to your message to negotiate the order or will open a case in the Resolution Center to cancel the order.
  10. Wait for an email from eBay about the canceled transaction. After the seller opens a case in the Resolution Center, you will receive an email from eBay. Here you will be asked whether you agree with the cancellation of the order.
  11. Click the link in the email to accept the seller's cancellation request. After you have done this, the order will be officially canceled.

Method 2 of 2: As a seller, cancel an order

  1. Go to https://signin.ebay.com/ and log into your eBay account.
  2. Click “Sold” in the left menu of your My eBay page.
  3. Click on the username of the person who placed an order you want to cancel. This will take you to the profile page of this person.
    • If you have already contacted the buyer about the transaction, click on “More” in the drop-down menu next to the order, click on “Fix a problem” and go to Step 7 of this article.
  4. Click on “Contact. A contact screen will now open with which you can send a message to the buyer of the item.
  5. Write and send a message to the buyer about canceling the order. Please explain why you want to cancel the order and ask the buyer to accept the cancellation request in the Resolution Center.
  6. Go to the eBay Resolution Center at http://resolutioncenter.ebay.com/.
  7. Select “The buyer and I agree to cancel a transaction.
  8. Click on “Continue.
  9. Enter the product number of the product for which you want to cancel the order.
  10. Click on “Continue.
  11. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to cancel the order. eBay will contact the buyer of your product and ask if they agree to cancel the order.
  12. Wait for the buyer to accept or decline the cancellation of the order. The buyer has 7 days to respond to the e-mail from eBay.
  13. Go back to the eBay Resolution Center at http://resolutioncenter.ebay.com/.
  14. Click on the case you opened for the canceled order.
  15. Select the reason for closing the case, such as “The buyer and I completed the transaction successfully.
  16. Click on “Close case. The order will now be officially canceled and you will receive a value credit credit from eBay within 7 to 10 days.

Tips

  • If you are a seller and have not received a response to a case created in the Resolution Center after 7 days, you can close the case in the Resolution Center yourself. Also by completing a case in this way, you will receive a credit of value compensation.
  • If you're a seller and want to cancel an eBay order, make sure to open a case in the Resolution Center within 45 days of the sale. After this period has expired, you can no longer cancel the order.

Warnings

  • If you are a seller, make sure to close the case in the Resolution Center within 60 days of the sale. If you do not do this, you will not receive a credit of value compensation for the order you canceled.
  • Once you have purchased something on eBay or made a winning bid, you are required by law to purchase the product. If for any reason the seller does not agree to the purchase, this incident will be marked on your account as an unpaid product. This may lead to your account being blocked or restricted in the future.
